Abstract:

To study the topological differences between the left and right functional brain networks during visual word recognition in task mode, with the 45 subjects' tfMRI data from the OpenfMRI project database of Word and Object Processing, the left-and-right functional brain networks under the conditions of words and consonant strings were constructed based on the anatomical brain atlas automated anatomical labelling (AAL), respectively. The degree centrality, global efficiency, clustering coefficient and local efficiency of the two hemispheres were statistically compared, and the relationship between regions of interest (ROIs) of AAL and the language network of functional brain atlas Willard-499 was investigated. Significant statistical differences were identified between the left and right brain network indexes in the sparsity domain under the two experimental conditions. The four significant differences of the indexes were 0, 0, 0 and 0 under the consonant string experiment condition, and 0, 5%, 0, and 44% under the word experiment condition, respectively. The sharp contrast on the percentage of significant differences between the clustering coefficient and the local efficiency was identified under the word experiment condition. The left and right functional brain networks could be differentiated in local morphology during the visual word recognition. © 2022, Editorial Department of Journal of Beijing University of Technology.
