Abstract:
To investigate the alterations in structural integrity of white matter fiber tracts with temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE) patients, diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) and structural magnetic resonance imaging (sMRI) were performed on 23 TLE patients and 30 healthy controls subjects. The fractional anisotropy (FA), mean diffusivity (MD), axial diffusivity (AD) and radial diffusivity (RD), fiber density (FD), fiber cross-section (FC) and fiber density and cross-section (FDC) were measured and compared between the two groups by using the voxel-based analysis (VBA) and fixel-based analysis (FBA) methods. Additionally, the correlation between white matter alterations and the duration of disease were analyzed. Compared with the healthy controls group, the MD, AD and RD values of TLE patients increased; the FA, FD, FC and FDC values were reduced. Results show that FBA of magnetic resonance DTI provides a new method to show the alterations of white matter fiber tracts in the whole brain morphological, which is helpful for the diagnosis of TLE. © 2022, Editorial Department of Journal of Beijing University of Technology.
