Abstract:

The mechanical rock fragmentation experimental platform of Beijing University of Technology was used to perform linear cutting tests on Chongqing sandstone by V type, constant cross section(CCS) type and round type cutters. Based on the rock breaking phenomena and test data, the influence of cutter tip type on rock-breaking mechanism and efficiency were studied from the aspects of cutter force, cutter tip stress, specify energy and muck parameters. The applicability of different cutter types was discussed. The results show that the cutter tip type parameters can affect the crack propagation pattern within the rock and change the cutter breaking mechanism. The breakage curve of the round type cutter increases linearly. The contact stress of the cutter tip is high, and the cutter force is relatively low. The radial crack below the cutter expands sufficiently to form triangular rock ships, and the cutter is easier to intrude into the rock. But the loading condition of the round type cutter is not good. The breakage curves of the CCS type cutter show a power function growth trend. The contact stress of the cutter tip is not so high, the damage range to the rock is small and the rock chips are thin and flat. However, the loading condition of the CCS cutter is better compared with the round type cutter. The rock-breaking performance of V type cutter is between the round type cutter and CCS cutter. Regardless of the cutter types, as the penetration rate increases, the crack propagation extent within the rock increases and the cutter tip contact stress tends to decrease. For the Chongqing sandstone, the round type cutter has the lowest specific energy and the best rock-breaking efficiency. © 2023 Central South University of Technology. All rights reserved.
