Abstract:
Some organic solvents like cyclopentanone, cyclohexanone and ethyl benzoate were firstly selected based on the selection principle of crystal-growth solvent, solvent characteristics and crystallization experimental data, and then trans-stilbene (TSB) crystals were grown in these solvents by a solution cooling method, respectively. The centimeter-sized TSB crystal with a proper transparency were obtained. The effect of solvent type on the growth morphology, growth habit and integrity of TSB crystals was investigated. The results show that these solvents are less poisonous than the used solvents like benzene methyl ether and toluene, and more suitable for the growth of TSB crystal blocks, the cross-sections of the crystals obtained in two cyclic ketones are hexagonal, while those in ethyl benzoate are parallelograms, and the optimal growth temperature range and the type of macro-defects appeared in growth period are varying due to the solvent difference. © 2018, Editorial Department of Journal of the Chinese Ceramic Society.
