Abstract:

To ensure the elderly can participate in basic social activities in Beijing, this paper takes the subdistrict of Dongcheng of Beijing as an example, from the perspective of traffic equity to analyze the differences of public transport equity. Through Gini coefficient and Lorenz curve to quantify the equity, we build comprehensive accessibility, service level, and location entropy indicators to measure the travel equity of the elderly in regional public transport. The findings of this work are as follows: (1) the public transport availability of the elderly in Dongcheng District is relatively equitable; (2) the spatial distribution of public transport resources in Dongcheng District is relatively equitable, but the overall level of location entropy is relatively low; and (3) the public transport accessibility in Dongcheng District is relatively equitable. The research provides a method to measure the regional public transport equity and a reference for the spatial distribution of public transport resources. © 2020 ASCE.
