Abstract:

In order to increase the resource utilization rate of iron-rich waste residues and produce functional high value-added products, the research progress of glass-ceramics from iron-rich waste residues in recent years was reviewed, covering the materials with non-magnetic and magnetic properties. The composition-structure-properties-application interrelationships of the iron-rich glass-ceramics are systematically elaborated. For the non-magnetic iron-rich glass-ceramics, the effects of sintering atmosphere and iron ion valence on the structure and properties will be summarized. For the magnetic iron-rich glass-ceramics, three representative materials, i.e., magnetite-based, bariumferrite-based and zincferrite-based glass-ceramics, will be introduced. Especially, the effect of iron oxide on the structure and properties of magnetite-based glass-ceramics will be explored. Finally, the problems of single function of iron-rich glass-ceramics and the lack of theoretical studies are pointed out and the research direction of iron-rich glass-ceramics is prospected. © 2022 Editorial Office of Journal of Ceramics.
