Abstract:
To study the local stable bearing capacity of stainless steel axially compressed tubular tubes, nine austenitic, seven duplex and three Q355 tubular stub columns for comparison were tested under axial loading, and the failure mode and local stable bearing capacity of stainless steel stub columns were analyzed. The results indicate that all stub columns have local buckling, and the diameter to thickness ratio has considerable effect on the load-carrying capacity of axially compressed stub columns. The test bearing capacity were compared with the bearing capacity design method in European design manual for structural stainless steel EN 1993-1-4, North American specification for the design of cold-formed steel structural members AISI S100-2016, American specification for structural steel buildings ANSI / AISC 360, and specification for structural stainless steel buildings ANSI / AISC 370-21. The results show that the predicted values of bearing capacity about smaller diameter and thickness ratio in the four codes are conservative, and the predicted values of some members with large diameter and thickness ratio are not conservative. © 2023 Science Press.
