Abstract:

In order to investigate the overall buckling behavior of the austenitic EN 1.4301 stainless steel columns under axial compression, 6 full-scale specimens were tested. The initial bending before the test and the loading eccentricity during the test were both measured. Based on the experimental results, the failure modes and buckling capacity were analyzed and compared with Euro steel structure design code (EN 1993-1-4) and Chinese steel structure design code (GB 50017-2003). The results show that the test data is higher than that in the design curves in EN 1993-1-4 and GB 50017-2003, so it can be concluded that the design curves in EN 1993-1-4 and GB 50017-2003 are generally conservative.
