Abstract:

In order to achieve energy saving and low carbon tunnel lighting conditions with safety considered, the driver visual request characteristics and the influence of tunnel entrance section lighting on changing rate of driver's pupil were analyzed. By experiment designing, typical vehicles were chosen for real vehicle testing with a random sample of 24 drivers on tunnel entrance section of the mountainous expressway and tested data were collected and analyzed. The changing rate of pupil was selected as the evaluation index to evaluate the driving safety and comfort of tunnel entrance section lighting. The logistic regression model of changing rate of driver's pupil, luminance reduction coefficient and vehicle operation speed was established. The changing rate of pupil which could be used to describe driving tension degree and changing rate of pupil (20%) for safety and comfort threshold the safety and comfort threshold were put in the logistic regression model for verification. The results show that the safety and comfort luminance reduction coefficient of tunnel entrance section with a speed limit of 60 km·h-1 is 0.028 which is higher than current standard specification. The research method and conclusions can provide theory, method and practice value for the expressway tunnel lighting design and operation management at the tunnel entrance section.
