Abstract:

Hard-to-hard material combination have potential application to solve the abrasive wear problem in seawater hydraulic components. To select suitable material combination for key tribopairs in seawater hydraulic components, the tribological performance of TiCN-based cermet, Tungsten carbide (WC) with 6%wt of Co (YG6X) and WC with 6%wt of Ni (YN6X) against Si3N4 ceramic in seawater was experimentally investigated. The results show that the coefficients of friction and wear of the YN6X/Si3N4 tribopair were below those of other tribopairs. The Ni in YN6X could effectively reduce the corrosion effect of seawater. The ploughing effect caused by the peeling of the adhesion layer on the Si3N4 increased the rate of wear of TiCN. And the corrosive impact of the seawater exacerbated the ploughing effect, resulting in heavy wear of the YG6X. Therefore, a YN6X/Si3N4 tribopair with excellent wear resistance has the potential to prohibit abrasive wear caused by seawater. The research can provide the experimental evidence for materials screening of key tribopairs in seawater hydraulic components.
