Abstract:

In order to investigate the size effect on seismic behavior of reinforced concrete columns, six reinforced concrete columns under low cycle reversed loading with three different dimensions, including 300, 500 and 700 mm, and different axial load ratios, were tested. The damage mode, hysteretic behavior, skeleton curves, ductility and energy dissipation were discussed. The influences of section size on bearing capacity, ductility, energy dissipation and plastic hinge rotation ability were analyzed. The results indicate that the flexural capacity, ductility and plastic hinge rotation capacity of reinforced concrete column decrease as section size increases, due to obvious size effect. Size effect of average energy consumption coefficient is also apparent, which decreases as section size increases. Then on the basis of experiment, a practical calculation model of flexural strength of reinforced concrete column considering section size effect coefficient of specimen subjected to cyclic loading was proposed.
