Abstract:

Palladium-nickel(Pd-Ni)bimetallic composite electrodes were fabricated on meshed titanium(Ti)substrates by electrochemical deposition in the presence of polymeric pyrrole(PPy), PPy-cetyl trimethyl ammonium bromide(CTAB), PPy-sodium dodecyl sulphate(SDS), PPy-sodium dodecyl sulfonate(SLS), respectively(Pd-Ni/PPy/Ti electrode, Pd-Ni(CTAB)/PPy/Ti electrode, Pd-Ni(SDS)/PPy/Ti electrode and Pd-Ni(SLS)/PPy/Ti electrode). The different surfactant effects on electrochemical catalytic activities were studied. Cyclic voltammetry(CV)showed that the hydrogen adsorption peak values of the four electrodes were -93, -116, -70, -82mA, respectively, which indicated that the Pd-Ni(CTAB)/PPy/Ti electrode had best electrochemical catalytic activity. Scanning electron microscope(SEM)images revealed the effects of different surfactants on the surface morphology of electrodes. The quantities of Pd and Ni on the four electrodes were analyzed by means of inductively coupled plasma-atomic emission spectrometry(ICP-AES). The results of X-ray diffraction(XRD)showed that four electrode films were made of Pd-Ni alloy. Experimental results indicated that the Pd-Ni bimetallic composite electrode doped cationic surfactant CTAB had good electrochemical performance and high potential of reductive dechlorination.
