Abstract:

Wear resistant performance of two kinds of high speed steel (HSS) roll materials differently tempered was studied by two-body abrasive wear test on a pin-on-disk tester. The results show that HSS has no secondary hardening when quenching temperature is lower, but the content of retained austenite has obviously increased when quenching temperature is higher, and it transforms to martensite when tempering cooling, which leads to hardening of HSS. Common HSS has excellent wear resistance while quenching at 1050°C and tempering at 530-560°C, and the HSS treated by titanium and magnesium-rare earth has excellent wear resistance while quenching at 1040°C and tempering at 520-540°C. Under the same wear condition, the weight loss of HSS treated by titanium and magnesium-rare earth is lower than that of common HSS.
