Abstract:

To deeply understand the relationship between surface macrotexture skid resistance of asphalt pavement, field tests are conducted using laser profile tester with 1.067 1 mm sample interval and dynamic friction tester in 33 test sites of 11 sections of various highway grades and pavement types. Statistical character, fractal character and geometric character indicators of pavement surface profile and Mean Profile Depth are calculated. Mean Profile Depth, Skewness, Kurtosis, Fractal Dimension, Average Slope and Average Curvature are finally selected to describe asphalt pavement macrotexture through correlation analysis. Multiple regression analysis shows a significant quadratic polynomial relation between macrotexture and skid resistance. Relationship of surface macrotexture and skid resistance of asphalt pavement can be precisely characterized using above mentioned 6 macrotexture indicators.
