Abstract:
This study had been carried out to investigate the feasibility of using the photo-coupler method for defrost-control in refrigeration equipments. The photo-coupler sensors were setup on the cold finned heat exchangers in natural convection regimes. The experiment results indicated that the output voltages of the photo-coupler would change directly, with the frost growing up. The relationship of the output voltage signal with the frost thickness presented good characteristics, such as 'on-off' and 'linear'. These characteristics could meet the requirement of defrosting control criterion in air-conditioning or refrigeration facility.
