Abstract:

The shrinkage distortion of engineering cementitious composites (ECC), the behavior for adhesion of ECC on existing concrete, and the durability properties of ECC under freezing and thawing cycles are experimentally researched. The effects of fiber variety and reduction additive on shrinkage distortion of ECC are analyzed. The behavior for adhesion of ECC on existing concrete and the effects of domestic and imported fibers on durability properties of ECC under freezing and thawing cycles are discussed. The results show that domestic PVA fibers can effectively control the early stage shrinkage distortion of ECC, while Japan PVA fibers of high Young's modulus can effectively control the final stage shrinkage distortion of ECC. The shrinkage strain probably reduces 2 × 10-4 with the addition of reduction additive, and reduction additive can also effectively control the shrinkage distortion of ECC when W/C is 0.40. The behavior of adhesion of ECC on existing concrete is much better than that of self-compacting concrete and plain concrete. ECC is a perfect material for retrofitting deck and pavement, strengthening reservoir and dam. The frost resistance grade of ECC is higher than F300, so ECC can repair and strengthen concrete structures in cold regions.
