Abstract:
Induction brazing of LY12 under the protection of Ar gas was carried out with low melting point Al-Si-Cu-Ge filler metal. The microstructure and formation phases of brazed joints were investigated by means of scanning electron microscopy (SEM), EDS. The results indicate that the microstructures of the brazed joint include Al-Si-Cu-Ge, Al-Si-Ge and Al-Cu eutectic phases, Si-Ge precipitated phase and θ(Al2Cu) phase. The liquids temperatures of the new-type filler metals reduce to 503°C. A lap joint of aluminum alloy LY12 was obtained successfully in induction brazing. The shear strength can be reached 78~98 MPa.
