Abstract:

Subdivision scheme is a powerful method for the definition of sub-surface smooth, continuous, seamless surface. This paper presents a new method to obtain interpolating subdivision limit surfaces from approximating subdivision, based on local RBF (radial basis function). The method is composed of two steps. First, the control mesh will be refined by a specified approximating subdivision scheme. Then, all the vertices of the refined mesh will be displaced to interpolate the original mesh. The displacements of the new edge vertices are computed by RBF defined locally. The results show that the proposed method integrates the features of both approximation subdivision and interpolation subdivision. © 2009 Binary Information Press.
