Abstract:
Fe nanoparticles prepared by sonochemical treatment of carbonyl iron were applied to coat micrometer sized Nd2Fe14B permanent magnetic powder. The composite powders were then prepared into bulk nanocomposite Nd2Fe14B/α-Fe magnets. By using spark plasma sintering (SPS) technique, the magnets with the nominal Fe content (mass fraction) of 5% bares optimal magnetic properties of Br0.86 T, Hci 683.8 kA/m and (BH)max 95.92 kJ/m3 were prepared. A high ball milling pretreatment to the composite powders is helpful for obtaining magnets with fine grains and even microstructure. As a result, the Br and (BH)max of the magnet increase to 0.94 T and 113.6 kJ/m3, respectively.
