Abstract:

In applications, users may be only interested in parts of a mesh, and demand higher reconstruction fidelity of the region of interest (ROI) than that of non-ROI at very low bit rate. Up to now, there have no publications on ROI coding of 3D meshes. We proposed an efficient method of 3D mesh ROI coding in this paper. Two methods to code the ROI firstly and four ROI coding models are proposed. A quick scheme for constructing ROI mask is also suggested. Experimental results show that the proposed method has achieved the ROI coding of 3D meshes efficiently, and supported the browsing of 3D meshes on Internet interactively and individually.
