Abstract:

Viewpoint of substituting disinfection function of disinfectant by controlling phosphorus content to restrain bacteria growth is advanced, according to the key action of phosphorus in microorganism growth and a series of water quality problems caused by drinking water disinfection process. Feasibility of the viewpoint in practice and research to carry out are analyzed in the respect of existing monitoring method of phosphorus and phosphorus removal effect of conventional treatment process. It is pointed out that these will be a field of advanced phosphorus removal from drinking water, by development of new and highly effective coagulants and special adsorbents with advantage of phosphorus removal, on condition that existed treatment process is not changed.
