Abstract:

Rapid biological filter was applied to treat the effluent from a secondary wastewater treatment plant. The results show that rapid biological filter has high flexibility for the variation of secondary effluent quality. Except for hygienic index, the effluent of rapid biological filter can reach Water Quality Standard for Urban Miscellaneous Water Consumption (GB / Tl8920-2002) of China at most time of our test. The design and running parameters of rapid biological filter are recommended as follows: start-up with increasing inflow with no need inoculation, 2~3mm size ceramic with 2000mm depth as filter bed; 3.2~6.4m / h as upflow rate; 24~120h with average 72h as filtration period; (1~2):1 as water gas ratio, water with gas as backwashing strategy.
