Abstract:

Investigated the effects of three different types of electron acceptors on phosphate uptake in anaerobic-aerobic (An/O) process. The results indicated that there were denitrifying phosphorus removal bacteria (DPB) in An/O process. The rate of DPB to phosphorus removal organisms (PAOs) in An/O process varied in the nitrate concentration. The low rate of COD/TP would be favor to the growth of DPB. The data obtained suggested that in addition to the two well-accepted electron acceptors (oxygen or nitrate) for PAOs, the nitrite was an alternative electron acceptor while its concentration was below the threshold concentration (<95 mg/L). Furthermore, the results confirmed that the speed and quantity of phosphate uptake in aerobic condition were higher than in anoxic (nitrate or nitrite) one, but the energy requirement and the sludge production were reverse absolutely.
