Abstract:

More and more attention has been paid to understanding the choice of commuter's departure time. This research, by adopting revealed preference approach, has investigated how car commuters chose the departure time during morning peak hours on weekdays in Beijing. In this paper, the characteristics and influential factors on the choice of car commuter's departure time were analyzed. Car commuter's survival time of different travel OD, travel time and acceptable congestion time were analyzed by using Kaplan-Meier method. The results reveal that the cumulative frequency curve of car commuter's departure time can be described by logistic curve. And the car commuters who cross-district travel are likely to arrange an earlier travel than those of internal district travel. In addition, as the travel time and acceptable congestion time of car commuters increase, car commuters choose earlier departure time. The research findings can provide a reference for relieving urban traffic congestion. © 2017 Hong Kong Society for Transportation Studies Limited. All rights reserved.
