Abstract:

Appeared Marangoni convection during absorption in absorber affects absorber performance significantly. To understand mechanism of forming Marangoni convection better, shadowgraph technique is used to visualize absorption process to find conditions for generating and enhancing Marangoni convections. Absorption experiments are performed in a transparent static pool at atmospheric pressure. Experimental results show that there are two typical situations during water vapor absorption, i.e. a gradually widen black horizontal band or Marangoni convection appeared. Marangoni convections can be observed in various intensities with different starting time and duration during vapor absorption process when different amount of n-octanol is added in LiBr aqueous solution. After several minutes of vapor absorption, convection disappears and a horizontal black band turns up in shadow image. This black band is thought as a water vapor absorption layer of LiBr aqueous solution at interface.
