Abstract:

Microscopic traffic simulation software VISSIM sets up a simulated traffic intersection environment, and exchanges information with real traffic signal controller. The controller outputs signals to regulate vehicles in simulated environment; meanwhile, VISSIM detects vehicle information. Detected information will be fed back to the controller. Under the simultaneous working of real traffic signal controller and simulated traffic environment, the evaluation of vehicles operation in simulated intersection can be done through the evaluation module of VISSIM. Vehicles operation is a product of traffic signal controller. Therefore, based on hardware-in-the-loop, it is possible to evaluate and test the effectiveness of control strategy of traffic signal controller.
