Abstract:
In order to improve the durability of a bridge and decrease the initial and future cost of bridge construction, an important idea - Life-Cycle Cost Analysis (LCCA) is introduced in this paper. The authors firstly constructed the LCC classification framework according to the situation of China, and then comprehensively investigated various costs within a bridge's lifetime, by combining with some economic parameters such as inflation rate, social discount rate, etc. Finally, an economic model of a bridge's lifetime was built and a domestic bridge was taken as an example. Calculation and result analysis of the example prove that the life cycle cost of bridges should be comprehensively considered in the investment decision making and conceptual design stages as well. © 2013 WIT Press.
