Abstract:
The temporal-spatial focusing effect of the Synthetic Time-reversal Focusing Method for Guided Wave Pipe Inspection is proved through both simulation and experiment. A finite element model of a steel pipe with outer diameter of 114 mm is built. And a crack-like defect is made on the pipe model to be focused on using Synthetic Time-reversal Focusing Method. According to the result of the simulation, the reflected echo of the defect is greatly enlarged in amplitude and improved in shape. With the guidance of the simulation, an experiment is carried out on the real steel pipe with outer diameter of 114mm. The experimental result is similar to the simulation. So, the Synthetic Time-reversal Focusing Method is proved to be effective in Guided wave pipe inspection. © 2012 IEEE.
