Abstract:

With continued growth in the demand for urban transportation, developing public transportation has become a major means to improving the traffic environment. In order to attract more residents to public transport, the introduction of feeder bus between large residential areas and the subway may improve the overall level of service. This paper considers the special function and role of the feeder bus to the conventional ones (the 'evaluation index'), and analyzes two levels of bus routes and bus stops. At the same time, we introduce two new concepts which are 'degree of site deviation' and 'residents' detour factor'. Finally, we established an evaluation system that combines with AHP for the feeder bus. The research put forth in this paper provides a scientific basis for optimizing feeder bus routes and sites. © 2012 American Society of Civil Engineering.
