Abstract:
A micromechanical model is presented in order to model effective properties and microstructural inhomogeneity of CNT/SMP composites. It is assumed that the CNT is elastic and the SMP obeys a thermo-mechanical constitutive law. The aggregated effect of CNT in a composite, which frequently encounters in real engineering, is considered by a two-step homogenization approach. The aggregation degree of CNT is described by an aggregation coefficient. The effective properties of CNT/SMP composites with aggregated inclusions are estimated by Mori-Tanaka method. It is shown that the aggregation of CNT can influence dramatically the effective properties of the CNT/SMP composites. © 2010 ASCE.
