Abstract:
In this paper, a preliminary investigation on the photocatalytic characteristics was carried out on a quartz photo-reactor and a Perspex photo-reactor respectively, both coated with photocatalyst films. Experimental results show that photocatalytic degradation of the methyl orange has been very successful at all the inertial concentrations in the quartz glass reactor. About 80% of the methyl orange has been decomposed within 2 hour. Data analysis indicates that the first order photocatalytic reaction rate can be identified. Comparison of the experimental data reveals that light intensity has a very strong influence on the photoreaction rate, which implies that the concentrated light system will be suitable in the solar photocatalytic treatment of wastewater.
