Abstract:

There is a principle error in the gear honing, when using worm shaped honing wheel dressed by straight profile diamond roller instead of involute worm shaped honing wheel to process gear. This principle error and influences were studied in this paper. The process of gear honing was modeled by using meshing theory to compare the model of gear honed with the standard model to get error of the model and mapped the error distribution of gear tooth surface. Finally, the influence in normal error of gear tooth surface caused by different helix angles (diameter and number of threads) and pressure angles of worm was analyzed. Results show that with the increase of helix angles in the worm wheel, the normal error of the gear tooth surface decreases. It is more accurate to use worm shaped honing wheel dressed by straight diamond roller instead of involute worm shaped honing wheel to hone gear when pressure angles is smaller on the gear. The feasibleness in gear honing with the milled helicoids worm shaped honing wheels was proved, and the research has practical meaning to gear honing. © 2019, Editorial Department of Journal of Beijing University of Technology.
