Abstract:
Ternary carbonates can be used as high temperature thermal energy storage materials in concentrated solar power plant. To improve the thermal properties, the ternary carbonates (K2CO3: Li2CO3: Na2CO3 =4:4:2, mass ratio) nanofluids with different concentration (0.25, 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, 2.0 wt.%) of SiO2 nanoparticles were prepared in the present work. The specific heat capacity and thermal diffusivity of nanofluids were measured by using differential scanning calorimeter (DSC) and laser flash apparatus (LFA), respectively. When the SiO2 nanoparticles concentration is 1.0 wt.%, the specific heat capacity and thermal diffusivity of ternary carbonates can be enhanced by 79.9-113.7% and 16.3-25.9% in the range of 500-540°C, respectively. Subsequently, the calculated thermal conductivity of ternary carbonates can be increased by 128-156.7%. Based on the characterization of scanning electron microscopy (SEM), the needlelike structures with large specific surface area can be found in ternary carbonates nanofluids, which can provide a preferential path for heat transfer and help to improve the thermal properties of ternary carbonates nanofluids. © 2018 International Heat Transfer Conference.
