The　vehicular　navigation　system　(VNS)　is　an　elementary　part　of　the　ITS.　The　status　quo　and　trends　of　the　research　and　development　of　the　VNS　in　our　country　is　thoroughly　analyzed　entirely　in　this　paper　and　some　pivotal　technical　problems　are　discussed　in　detail.　Finally　the　author＇s　thoughts　has　been　given　for　the　application　prospect　of　GPS　and　GIS　in　VNS　is　emphasized.　This　has　important　significance　for　the　development　of　VNS　and　the　construction　of　ITS.
