Abstract:

Mixed traffic phenomena are one of the most remarkable characteristics in China cities, which can cause traffic congestion and accident in urban intersection in China. So as to create the appropriate strategy of signal control of the intersection, this paper presents a new method to divide the intensity state of the pedestrians and bicycles in the signalized intersection crosswalks of green time. First, it analyzes the characteristics of the pedestrians and bicycles in the intersection crosswalks of green time, and presents the new definition of the pedestrians and bicycles conglomeration. Then, in the view of the timing and spacing resources of the intersection, it presents the new definition and the necessary of the division of the intensity state of the pedestrians and bicycles in the signalized intersection crosswalks of green time. We choose three indexes as the criterion to divide the intensity state of the pedestrians and bicycles as follows: the volume of the pedestrians and bicycles under the green time; the utilization proportion of the green time; and the utilization proportion of the space of the intersection. We choose the K-means cluster analysis as the method to divide the intensity state into three categories as follows: low intensity state; mean intensity state and high intensity state. Finally, it takes the Pingleyuan intersection of Beijing for example to divide the intensity state of the pedestrians and bicycles.
