Abstract:

In view of the defects of large size and difficult updating for existing RFID readers, due to the fact that FPGA can be programmed repeatedly and dynamically and be used conveniently, RFID reader is studied based on FPGA. The reader possesses the advantages of flexible structure, small size, easily upgrading and convenient realization of different external interfaces, and etc. FPGA chip acts as kernel of the reader, implementing the interface for various kids of devices the reader. Interrupt service routine for COM port is used to receive tag' data, LCD displays tag' data. The editing, debugging and combination of the programs are finished in FPGA' integrated software environment, and the program codes are downloaded to the chip to implement its functions through specialized cable. Experimental result shows that the FPGA can effectively realize RFID reader. This design not only reduces the size of RFID reader, but also reduces the power consumption, thus it has wide application prospect.
