Abstract:
The high carbon high speed steel (HC-HSS) was made by self-made centrifugal casting machine with various magnetic flux density (0. 05 - 0. 20 T) and at the rotational speed 960r/min. The influence of magnetic flux density of electromagnetic centrifugal casting machine on microstructure and properties of high carbon high speed steel (HC-HSS) was investigated. The results show that the angular, granular carbides of as-cast HC-HSS are' well-distributed in the steel matrix and the eutectic carbides decreases first and then increases as the magnetic flux density increased. After heat treatment, the eutectic carbides become thin and short. The test specimen have high hardness, impact toughness and excellent relative wear resistance when the magnetic field strength reaches to 0.15T.
