Abstract:
The description of wave propagation in multilayered adhesive structure is quite complex with different interface conditions. In the case of plane longitudinal wave incidence, the reflection and transmission coefficient expressions of longitudinal and transverse waves with the dimensionless parameter ωτ in plate-like adhesive structure were derived when the adhesive layer was assumed as viscoelastic body with a relaxed time of τ. First, by applying this method to aluminum-epoxy resin-polystyrene adhesive structure, and comparing with existing data, the feasibility of characterization of interface state by assigning ωτ was confirmed. Secondly, the case of steel-epoxy resin-steel was researched, the impacts of angle of incidence and frequency-thickness products on the sound reflection and transmission characteristics were analyzed. The results show that, for the well-connected or sliding interfaces, the curves of reflection and transmission coefficients show periodically oscillate under the circumstance of vertical incidence of longitudinal wave. In the case of the oblique incidence, if the value of frequency-thickness products is appropriate, the interface forms can be distinguished effectively with the use of reflection or transmission coefficient method of longitudinal or transverse wave. The results can provide theoretical basis for testing of adhesive structure by ultrasonics. © 2016, Editorial Board of Journal of Huazhong University of Science and Technology. All right reserved.
