Abstract:
A novel approach with partly bridged stent was proposed in this paper for stenting treatment of aortic arch aneurysms to improve the blood perfusion to the side branches. The physiologic blood flows around the aortic arch aneurysms were simulated using a numerical method. Simulation results demonstrated that the flow activities inside the partly-stented aneurysm model were significantly diminished, specifically the pressures and wall shear stresses in the bleb were decreased, thus promoting intra-aneurysmal thrombus development and attenuating aneurysm rupture risk. The present numerical study indicated that partly-stented aortic arch aneurysms seem to be a feasible treatment technique. © 2007 IEEE.
