Abstract:
Based on the superelastic property and high damping performance of shape memory alloy (SMA) as well as the behavior of Pall's friction damper, an SMA incorporated friction damper is proposed. After establishing the mechanical models of the damper, the behaviors of the SMA incorporated friction dampers are studied through experiments, from which the effects of displacement amplitudes and loading frequencies are taken into account. Working parameters, such as equivalent stiffness, energy dissipation capacity per cycle, and equivalent damping ratio of the damper are evaluated through experiments. A comparison is made between theoretical and experimental results. It is shown that stable hysteresis loops can be obtained under different loading and unloading cycles, and the SMA incorporated friction damper possesses a good energy dissipation performance.
