Abstract:
This article reviews the researches and applications on a new finite element method-Base Force Element Method (BFEM) using a concept of base forces proposed by Gao. The analysis results show the BFEM is consistent with those of the theoretical solutions. The BFEM on complementary energy principle shows good performances compared with the traditional 4-node quadrilateral isoparametric element (Q4 model). For high geometrically nonlinear problem, the BFEM on complementary energy principle shows some advantages compared with the 4-node quadrilateral reduced integration element (Q4R model). The BFEM is simple and effective. It is new idea of FEM and has widely application extension.
