Abstract:
In recent years, the methodology of progressive collapse prevention for building was widely concerned in Europe and United States engineering community. Several buildings design codes and guidelines which include progressive collapse provisions were issued. In China there is not design code including the same content. In this paper, a risk-based design approach to resist progressive collapse is introduced. Depending upon building type and occupancy, buildings are assigned to four classes. By means of arranging ties in structure and alternate path analysis method, the capacity of structure to resist progressive collapse is enhanced.
