Abstract :
This paper investigates the influence of secondary vibration and the time interval of secondary vibration on the shrinkage properties of freshly placed concrete. In this study, four sets of cylindrical specimens with a diameter of 30 cm and a height of 100 cm were designed with different time intervals for secondary vibration. By continuously monitoring the shrinkage strain of concrete for 17 weeks, a calculation model for the early-age shrinkage strain of concrete considering the effects of secondary vibration was proposed. Concrete compressive strength tests and water expansion tests were also designed to investigate the effects of secondary vibration on compressive strength, compactness and other properties under different environments. The study results showed that secondary vibration mainly reduced concrete shrinkage during the first three days, with a reduction ratio of 10%-20%, and then stabilized. The longer the time interval for vibration, the smaller the shrinkage strain of concrete, and the more significant the improvement in compressive strength and compactness, with an increased ratio of 15%-30%. The proposed prediction model can consider the effects of secondary vibration and reflect the early-age shrinkage variation of concrete during the first seven days. After the cast concrete undergoes water absorption and expansion, it can shrink again under natural air-drying conditions, and the shrinkage rate is not affected by the time interval of secondary vibration.

Abstract :
This paper proposed a novel demountable fabricated joint in frame, which is connected by the prestressed and mortise-tenon connection. The prefabricated components of the demountable structures are designed to be reused, and the joint presented in this paper will promote the sustainable application of prefabricated components in future. The damage process and damage pattern of the internal joints under the horizontal load were analyzed using the refined numerical analysis model based on ABAQUS 6.14. Parametric analyses were conducted simultaneously for five parameters: axial compression ratio, the area and effective initial stress of unbonded prestressed strands (UPSs), the local reinforcement ratio in the core zone of the demountable joint, and the friction coefficient between the interface of concrete. The results showed that the demountable joint exhibits excellent energy dissipation potential under horizontal loads, but the damage was concentrated in the core zone. The deformation of the joint mainly consisted of the self-deformation of the prefabricated components, including bending, bearing and shear, as well as the relative slip deformation between the prefabricated components. The axial compression ratio has a more significant effect on the hysteresis performance compared to the areas of the UPSs and the reinforcement ratio. The initial effective stress of the UPS and the friction coefficient have relatively minor influence on the hysteretic performance of the joint. Finally, this paper recommends the design parameter values (axial compression ratio should not exceed 0.4, area of unbonded prestressed reinforcement should be not lower than Asn=0.02 and not higher than Asn=0.1, the initial stress of the UPS takes the value of 0.75fpu) and outlines optimization measures.

Abstract :
A self-centering isolated pier (SIP) with an elliptical rocking interface is proposed to enhance the seismic performance of bridge piers. Pseudostatic tests were conducted on two SIPs (one with and the other without tie bars) to study their damage patterns and hysteretic characteristics. Additionally, a finite-element model of a SIP was constructed to study the effect of SIP parameters on its hysteretic characteristics, such as the long radius of the ellipse, the ratio of the long to the short radii of the ellipse, the distance from the tie bar to the centerline of the pier, and the axial compression ratio. The results indicated that the pier bodies of the two SIPs are in the elastic stage. Increasing the long radius of the ellipse and axial compression ratio can enhance the hysteretic characteristics of the SIP. However, these larger values could lead to yield failure of the pier bottom. Furthermore, an increase in the ratio of the long to the short radii of the ellipse results in a progressively less plump hysteretic curve for the SIP, leading to a reduction in energy dissipation capacity. Nevertheless, an increase in this ratio can improve the self-centering ability of SIPs. The distance from the tie bar to the centerline of the pier has little effect on hysteretic characteristics of the SIP.

Abstract :
This paper introduces a novel type of connection that integrates unbonded prestressed strands (UPS) and mortise-tenon in an assembly frame structure (UPS-MTF). First, the damage process and failure modes of the joints under reciprocating horizontal loads were systematically analyzed using refined numerical models. The recommended values of the design parameters of the joints were derived from the parametric analysis results. Refined numerical modeling results reveal the diagonal compression strut mechanism within the core region of the joint. The diagonal compression struts model assists in establishing the theoretical calculation formula for the skeleton curve of shear stress-strain in the core region. Second, a genetic algorithm (GA) parameter was identified for the restoring force model of the core region to determine the parameters of the hysteresis rules. Finally, a macro-simplified analytical model of the joint was created based on the restoring force model of the core region, and parameter analysis was conducted to verify the applicability of this macro-simplified analytical model. The research results prove that the damaged form of the joint proposed in this paper originates from the shear and relative slip damage between the components in the core region. The axial compression ratio significantly affects the hysteretic performance of the joints, and the upper and lower limit values were identified for the axial compression ratio of the joints. The area and initial effective stress of the UPS exert a minimal effect on the hysteretic performance of the joint. Based on the method proposed in this paper for determining the restoring force model in the core region of the joints, the hysteresis curves obtained from the macro-simplified analytical model closely match the refined numerical analysis model results. This correspondence verifies the applicability of the macro-simplified analytical model.

Abstract :
While the current seismic fortification standards for cable-stayed bridges have been established, determining the return periods and fortification objectives remains insufficient. This study introduces a multi-level seismic fortification objective for cable-stayed bridges with safe-belt devices. The safe-belt device protects the primary components and enables transfers to the restraint system based on varying seismic requirements. For this investigation, a double-tower cable-stayed bridge was chosen as the case study. Three finite element models with varying structural configurations were developed. Subsequently, an elastoplastic time-history analysis was performed under four levels of seismic excitation across different site categories. The results indicate that the primary structures of traditional cable-stayed bridges, specifically the towers and lower crossbeams, are vulnerable to severe damage during extremely rare earthquakes. Incorporating safe-belt devices in a doubletower cable-stayed bridge effectively reduces the internal forces exerted on the primary structures by utilizing the combined action of the dual towers, thereby preventing severe damage. Additionally, these devices allow for controlled girder-end displacement until their capacity is reached. This double-tower cable-stayed bridge successfully meets the multi-level seismic fortification objectives and satisfies the performance requirements at each level.

Abstract :
Concrete structures such as bridge decks and road pavements are subjected to repetitive loading and are susceptible to fatigue failure. A simplified stress-strain analysis method that can simulate concrete behavior with a sound physical basis, acceptable prediction precision, and reasonable computation cost is urgently needed to address the critical issue of high-cycle fatigue in structural engineering. An equivalent fatigue constitutive model at discrete loading cycles incorporated into the concrete damaged plasticity model (CDPM) in Abaqus is proposed based on fatigue damage evolution. A damage variable is constructed from maximum fatigue strains, and fatigue damage evolution is described by a general equation whose parameters' physical meaning and value range are identified. With the descending branch of the monotonic stress-strain curve as the envelope of fatigue residual strength and fatigue damage evolution equation as shape function, fatigue residual strength, residual stiffness, and residual strain are calculated. The equivalent fatigue constitutive model is validated through comparison with experimental data, where satisfactory simulation results were obtained for axial compression and flexural tension fatigue. The model's novelty lies in integrating the fatigue damage evolution equation with CDPM, explicitly explaining performance degradation caused by fatigue damage. The proposed model could accommodate various forms of concrete constitution and fatigue stress states and has a broad application prospect for fatigue analysis of concrete structures.
