Tilted-Mode All-Optical Diffractive Deep Neural Networks SCIE
期刊论文 | 2025 , 16 (1) | MICROMACHINES
Abstract&Keyword Cite

Abstract :

Diffractive deep neural networks (D2NNs) typically adopt a densely cascaded arrangement of diffractive masks, leading to multiple reflections of diffracted light between adjacent masks, thereby affecting the network's inference capability. It is challenging to fully simulate this multiple-reflection phenomenon. To eliminate this phenomenon, we designed tilted-mode all-optical diffractive deep neural networks (T-D2NNs) and proposed a theoretical model for diffraction propagation in the tilted mode. Simulation results indicate that T-D2NNs address the performance degradation caused by interlayer reflections in D2NNs constructed with high-index diffractive masks. In classification tasks, T-D2NNs achieve better classification results compared to D2NNs that consider interlayer reflections.

Design Optimization of Silicon-Based Optically Excited Terahertz Wave Modulation SCIE

Abstract :

The modulation of a terahertz (THz) wave on amplitude, phase and polarization is important for the application of THz technology, especially in the field of imaging, and is one of the current research hotspots. Silicon-based, optically excited THz modulator is a wavefront modulation technique with a simple, compact and reconfigurable optical path. It can realize the dynamic modulation of THz wavefronts by only changing the projected two-dimensional pattern, but it still suffers from the problems of lower modulation efficiency and slower modulation rates. In this article, the Drude model in combination with the multiple thin layers structure model and Fresnel matrix method is used to compare the modulation efficiencies of three modulation modes and more factors. The method is more accurate than the popular proposed method, especially when the thickness of the excited photoconductive layers reaches a few hundred microns. In comparing the three modes, namely transmission, ordinary reflection and total internal reflection, it is found the total internal reflection modulation mode has the best modulation efficiency. Further, under this mode, the effects of three factors, including the lifetime of photo-excited carriers, the wavelength of pump light and the frequency of THz wave, on the performance of THz modulator are analyzed. The simulation results show that the realization of total internal reflection using silicon prisms is a simple and effective method to improve the modulation efficiency of a silicon-based optically excited THz modulator, which provides references for the design of a photo-induced THz modulator.

Optical information hiding based on speckle encoding with dual-multiplexing interferometry SCIE
期刊论文 | 2024 , 573 | OPTICS COMMUNICATIONS
Abstract&Keyword Cite

Abstract :

Optical hiding schemes based on visual cryptography usually hide secret information in multiple visual keys. However, the traditional visual keys are usually Mosaic patterns, which are easy to attract the attention of attackers, and limit their randomness and security. And each visual key needs a corresponding transport carrier, leading to limited hiding capacity. To solve these problems, this paper proposes an optical information hiding method based on speckle encoding and dual-multiplexing interferometry. This method uses natural speckle with high randomness to partial replace traditional visual keys, realizing the combination application of natural speckle keys and artificial visual keys. The optical properties of wavelength and diffraction distance multiplexing interference can hide multiple visual keys in a single image, which improves the hiding capacity. Simulation and optical experiments show that the proposed method has high security, large hiding capacity, imperceptibility and robustness.

Full-Aperture Reflective Remote Fourier Ptychography with Sample Matching SCIE
期刊论文 | 2024 , 16 (22) | REMOTE SENSING
Abstract&Keyword Cite

Abstract :

Fourier ptychography (FP) can break through the limitations of existing optical systems with a single aperture and realize large field-of-view (FOV) and high-resolution (HR) imaging simultaneously by aperture synthesis in the frequency domain. The method has potential applications for remote sensing and space-based imaging. However, the aperture stop of the imaging system was generally set to be much smaller than the system with an adjustable diaphragm, so it failed to make full use of the imaging capability of the system. In this paper, a reflective remote FP with full aperture is proposed, and the optical aperture of the camera is set to be the maximum according to the sample-matching condition, which can further improve the imaging resolution by exploring the whole capability of the system. Firstly, the physical model of the remote FP is established using oblique illumination of a convergent spherical wave. Then, the sampling characteristics of the low-resolution (LR) intensity image are analyzed. Assuming diffraction-limited imaging, the size of the aperture of the optical system needs to match the sampling of the detector. An experimental setup with an imaging distance of 2.4 m is built, and a series of LR images is collected by moving the camera for the diffused samples, including the USAF resolution test target and the banknote, where the diameter of the single aperture is set to the maximum to match the size of the CCD pixel under the practical minimum F# of the camera of 2.8. The high-resolution image is reconstructed by applying the iterative phase retrieval algorithm. The experimental results show that the reconstructed resolution is improved to 2.5x. This verifies that remote FP with full aperture can effectively improve the imaging resolution using only the present single-aperture optical system.

Optimized galvanometric illumination for terahertz full-field imaging and computed tomography SCIE

Abstract&Keyword Cite

Abstract :

The pursuit of high-resolution, high-fidelity, real-time imaging is receiving significant attention in terahertz community. In this study, a versatile illumination approach based on a double-mirror galvanometer is proposed and optimized for multiple terahertz imaging approaches. We analyzed the mechanism of galvanometric illumination and elucidated two main factors affecting its homogeneity and parallelism properties. In our module, the terahertz beam is deflected rapidly by the galvanometer which is driven by triangular voltage signals, and then focused by a self-designed aspherical f-theta lens to illuminate the object at an equal lateral scanning velocity. The object beam of different transients is periodically superimposed along the Lissajous trajectory, and is recorded by an array microbolometer in a single integration of 3 s. A homogeneous illumination field is realized with a speckle contrast of 0.11, and the resultant image achieves isotropic resolution. By adopting the proposed galvanometric illumination strategy, the average intensity of the illumination field is increased by 135% compared to expanded coherent illumination, and the speckle contrast is reduced by 83.5% compared to other galvanometric illumination. By virtue of leading low speckle noise, illumination homogeneity and parallelism, a compact imaging system is built for terahertz full-field imaging and computed tomography achieving high imaging speed and fidelity. As a successful attestation of terahertz beam steering, this study is very promising to reduce the total cost, increase the performance and expand the application of terahertz imaging.

Abstract :

The converging lens is one of the key components in high-resolution terahertz imaging. In this Letter, a binary diffractive lens is proposed for the scanning imaging system working at 278.6 GHz, in which a convergent beam with a waist diameter of 0.65 mm is generated, and 1 mm lateral imaging resolution is realized. This low-cost terahertz lens, constituted by concentric rings with different radii, is optimized by stimulated annealing algorithm and fabricated by three-dimensional printing. Compared with the conventional transmissive convex lens, higher resolution and enhanced imaging quality are achieved via smaller focal spot of the illumination beam. This type of lens would promote terahertz imaging closer to practical appli-cations such as nondestructive testing and other scenarios.

Abstract :

Continuous-wave terahertz computed tomography (THz-CT) is an important three-dimensional imaging method for probing the profile and inner properties of a sample's structure. We applied the total variation (TV) minimization iterative algorithm to squeeze 75% data acquisition time of THz-CT without the loss of reconstruction fidelity. The imaging system is built based on a 278.6 GHz avalanche diode source. A zero-order Bessel beam is generated by an axicon, for which the intensity profile remains essentially propagation invariant within the non-diffracting zone. The effectiveness of the proposed method is verified by using three optically opaque objects. The reconstruction results show that the TV-minimization algorithm can effectively suppress noise, artefacts, and shape distortion created in sparse angle reconstruction. Abstract :

With the development of continuous-wave terahertz (THz) sources and array detectors, the pursuit of high-fidelity real-time imaging is receiving significant attention within the THz community. Here, we report a real-time full-field THz phase imaging approach based on lensless Fourier-transform THz digital holography. A triangular interferometric layout is proposed based on an oblique illumination of 2.52 THz radiation, which is different from other lensless holographic configurations at other frequencies. A spherical reference beam is generated by a reflective parabolic mirror with minor propagation loss. The complex-valued images are reconstructed using a single inverse Fourier transform of the hologram without complex calculation of the diffraction propagation. The experimental result for a Siemens star validates the lateral resolution of similar to 346 mu m in the diagonal direction. Sub-pixel image registration and image stitching algorithms are applied to enlarge the area of the reconstructed images. The dehydration process of an aquatic plant leaf (Hottonia inflates) is monitored for the first time, to the best of our knowledge, at the THz band. Rapid variations in water content and morphology are measured with a time interval of 0.6 s and a total time of 5 min from a series of reconstructed amplitude and phase images, respectively. The proposed method has the potential to become a powerful tool to investigate spontaneous phenomena at the THz band. (C) 2022 Chinese Laser Press

Abstract :

Massive usage scenarios prompt the prosperity of terahertz refractive index (THz RI) measurement methods. However, they are very difficult in measuring the full-field dynamical RI distributions of either solid samples without a priori thickness or liquid samples. In this study, we propose total internal reflection THz digital holography and apply it for measuring RI distributions for both solid and liquid samples dynamically. An RI measurement model is established based on an attenuated total reflection prism with a pitching angle. The pitching angle and the field of view can be numerically calculated from the spectrogram of the off-axis Fresnel hologram, which solves the adjustment of the visually opaque prism irradiated by the invisible THz beam. Full-field RI distributions of the droplets of solid-state soy wax and distilled water are obtained and compared with THz time-domain spectroscopy. The evaporation of an ethanol solution droplet is recorded, and the variation of the RI distribution at the sample-prism interface is quantitatively visualized with a temporal resolution of 10 Hz. The proposed method greatly expands the sample range for THz RI measurements and provides unprecedented insight into investigating spontaneous and dynamic THz phenomena. (C) 2022 Chinese Laser Press
