High-stability double perovskite scintillator for flexible X-ray imaging SCIE

Abstract :

Metal halide perovskites, as a new class of attractive and potential scintillators, are highly promising in X-ray imaging. However, their application is limited by the sensitivity to moisture and irradiation. To address this issue, we reported a 2D layered double perovskite material Cs4Cd1-xMnxBi2Cl12 that exhibits high stability both under ambient condition and under X-ray irradiation. Cs4Cd1-xMnxBi2Cl12 demonstrates superior scintillation performance, including excellent X-ray response linearity and a high light yield (similar to 34,450 photons/MeV). More importantly, the X-ray excited emission intensity maintains 92% and 94% of its original value after stored at ambient condition for over two years and after X-ray irradiation with a total dose of 11.4 Gy, respectively. By mixing with PDMS (polydimethylsiloxane), we have successfully produced a high-quality flexible film that can be bent freely while maintaining its excellent scintillation properties. The scintillating screen exhibits outstanding imaging ability with a spatial resolution of up to 16.7 line pairs per millimeter (lp/mm), also, the superiority of this scintillation screen in flexible X-ray imaging is demonstrated. These results indicate the huge potential of this high-stability double perovskite scintillator in X-ray imaging.

Efficient Near-Infrared Emitting Halide Scintillators with Mitigating External Light Crosstalk for Portable X-Ray Imaging SCIE

Abstract :

Portable X-ray imaging technology plays a crucial role in enabling prompt diagnosis and treatment outdoors. Nevertheless, the persistent challenge of external optical signal crosstalk poses a significant bottleneck to its advancement. Herein, a solution utilizing near-infrared (NIR) light to effectively mitigate optical crosstalk is proposed, thereby demonstrating the feasibility of portable X-ray imaging even under ambient light. A series of rare earth ions doped Cs2AgxNa1-xInyBi1-yCl6 halide scintillators is reported, which possess bright broadband visible and NIR emissions. Taking Cs2Ag0.6Na0.4In0.95Bi0.05Cl6: 5%Tm as an example, it shows decent thermal quenching resistance, high PLQY up to 76.3%, and compelling light yield up to 33500 photons MeV-1. The highly efficient NIR emission is attributed to the energy transfer from the optimized host to lanthanide ions. A flexible scintillation film is prepared by mixing poly(dimethyl-siloxane) with Cs2Ag0.6Na0.4In0.95Bi0.05Cl6: 5%Tm powder, realizing a low X-ray detection limit of 55.2 nGyair/s and a high spatial resolution of 11.2 lp mm-1. Due to the efficient NIR emission, the scintillation film enables clear X-ray imaging under bright LED illumination with the simple addition of filters, avoiding the necessity of a complex imaging apparatus. This work sheds light on NIR emissive scintillator for rapid outdoor response and portable X-ray imaging. A series of Cs2AgxNa1-xInyBi1-yCl6: rare earth (RE: Yb, Nd, Er, Tm) single crystals are successfully synthesized. As a highly efficient scintillator, the optimized Cs2Ag0.6Na0.4In0.95Bi0.05Cl6: 5%Tm with high light yield shows excellent near-infrared emission, acceptable thermal quenching resistance, and good spatial resolution. The portable X-ray imaging of Cs2Ag0.6Na0.4In0.95Bi0.05Cl6: 5%Tm@PDMS is also demonstrated. image

Low-dimensional hybrid copper(I) halides single crystals: synthesis, structures, and tunable photoluminescence SCIE

Abstract :

Low-dimensional organic-inorganic hybrid copper(I) compounds have attracted much attention due to their high luminescence efficiency and non-toxicity. In this study, we synthesized three novel centimeter-scale Cu(I)-based hybrid [1,2-PDA]CuX3 3 (X=Cl, =Cl, Br, I) single crystals using the solvent evaporation method. [1,2-PDA]CuCl3 3 and [1,2-PDA]CuBr3 3 exhibit zero-dimensional crystal structures composed of separated binary edge-sharing [CuX4]3- 4 ] 3- (X=Cl, =Cl, Br) tetrahedra, while [1,2-PDA]CuI3 3 exhibits a one-dimensional crystal structure composed of chains of corner-sharing [CuI4]3-tetrahedra. 4 ] 3- tetrahedra. The photoluminescence emission of [1,2-PDA]CuX3 3 (X=I, =I, Cl, Br) ranges from cyan to purple light at room temperature, showing a tunable pattern with the halogen changes. The photoluminescence quantum yield of the [1,2-PDA]CuI3 3 single crystal was measured to be 33.5 %. Density functional theory calculations demonstrate that all three single crystals have direct bandgaps. The emission mechanisms of [1,2-PDA]CuI3 3 single crystals were investigated by temperature-dependent photoluminescence spectroscopy, and the broadband emissions were found to be typical of self-trapped exciton emission. It is worth mentioning that the discovery of low toxic, stable, and inexpensive copper(I) compounds paves the way for considering low-cost and environmentally friendly copper halides for practical applications.

低维金属卤化物闪烁体的合成与X射线成像应用研究

Abstract :

近年来以卤化铅钙钛矿为代表的金属卤化物由于其优异的光电性质、光电器件性能备受研究者们的关注~1。金属卤化物除了在光伏、发光与显示、光电探测、激光等领域的应用前景突出,在高能射线探测与成像领域也逐渐引起人们的关注~2。低维金属卤化物由于其结构的特殊性,使得其具有高效的发光效率、大斯托克斯位移等优点,是一种优良的发光和闪烁材料。此次报告主要介绍我们课题组近年来在低维过渡金属卤化物闪烁体方面的研究工作,包含稀土基、铜基、Mn、Zr基等卤化物,报道该类材料的制备与闪烁发光性能研究~(3, 4),并提出其光产额提升的策略。

Large-Area X-Ray Scintillator Screen Based on Cesium Hafnium Chloride Microcrystals Films with High Sensitivity and Stability SCIE

Abstract :

Lead-halide perovskites have received extensive attention in X-ray imaging applications recently. However, their poor stability, lead toxicity, and strong light self-absorption seriously limit the commercial development. Here, we report a vacancy-ordered Cs2HfCl6 double perovskite for scintillators applications. The Cs2HfCl6 microcrystals (MCs) are characterized by broadband blue emission with a large Stokes shift. Joined experimental-theoretical characterizations reveal the highly localized charge distribution in Cs2HfCl6 and structural distortion of [HfCl6](2-) octahedron in the excited state favor the formation of self-trapped excitons (STEs), which contribute to the broadband emission. Benefiting from the radioluminescence of STEs with negligible self-absorption, the light yield of Cs2HfCl6 scintillator reaches 21700 photons/MeV, and the detection limit is 55 nGy(air) s(-1). Additionally, the Cs2HfCl6 scintillator exhibits extremely low hygroscopicity and good resistance to X-ray irradiation. Further, a large-area scintillator screen (20x20 cm(2)) is fabricated by combining scrape-coating and soft-pressing techniques, showing a spatial resolution of 11.2 lp mm(-1). Given the high spatial resolution and fast light decay of this scintillator screen, static X-ray imaging of bulky objects is realized, and dynamic X-ray imaging of a rotating chopping fan is demonstrated without ghosting effects. These results demonstrate the great commercial promise of Cs2HfCl6 scintillation screens for indirect X-ray detection.

Abstract :

The urgency for cost-effective, high-resolution, flexible X-ray imaging detectors is generating great demand for scintillators with low-temperature processability, high scintillation yield, and negligible afterglow. X-ray imaging materials are currently dominated by inorganic scintillators in the form of rigid films and bulk crystals, which have inherent limitations including high-temperature, complex synthesis, and considerable challenges toward advanced nonplanar imaging. Here, high-performance and flexible X-ray scintillators based on novel zero-dimensional (0D) (BTPP)2MnX4 (BTPP = benzyltriphenylphosphonium; X = Cl, Br) halides are reported. They emit bright green light originating from the 4T1-6A1 transition of Mn2+ under X-ray excitation. In particular, (BTPP)2MnBr4 single crystals exhibit excellent air- and radiation-stability, a high scintillation yield of 53 000 photons MeV-1, a low detection limit of 89.9 nGyair s-1, and an ultralow afterglow comparable to commercial Bi4Ge3O12 (BGO) single crystals. Moreover, the (BTPP)2MnCl4@polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) flexible scintillation screens achieve a high spatial resolution of 14.1 lp mm-1 and realize high-quality imaging results of nonplanar objects. This study demonstrates that the flexible scintillation screens based on low-dimensional Mn(II) hybrid halides have significant potential for low-dose and high-resolution X-ray imaging applications. The green-emitting (BTPP)2MnX4 (X = Cl, Br) flexible scintillation screens demonstrate high scintillation yield, decent X-ray detection limit, ultralow afterglow, high radiation resistance, superior imaging spatial resolution, and high-quality imaging results for both planar and nonplanar imaging objects. These results highlight the great potential of developing low-dimensional Mn(II) hybrid halides for X-ray detection and imaging applications.image

Abstract :

The low efficiency triplet emission of hybrid copper(I) iodide clusters is a critical obstacle to their further practical optoelectronic application. Herein, we present an efficient hybrid copper(I) iodide cluster emitter (DBA)(4)Cu4I4, where the cooperation of excited state structure reorganization and the metallophilicity interaction enables ultra-bright triplet yellow-orange emission with a photoluminescence quantum yield over 94.9 %, and the phonon-assisted de-trapping process of exciton induces the negative thermal quenching effect at 80-300 K. We also investigate the potential of this emitter for X-ray imaging. The (DBA)(4)Cu4I4 wafer demonstrates a light yield higher than 10(4) photons MeV-1 and a high spatial resolution of approximate to 5.0 lp mm(-1), showing great potential in practical X-ray imaging applications. Our new copper(I) iodide cluster emitter can serve as a model for investigating the thermodynamic mechanism of photoluminescence in hybrid copper(I) halide phosphorescence materials.

Abstract :

The incorporation of lanthanide ions (Ln(3+)) has been shown to be an effective strategy to tune the luminescence properties in lead-free halide double perovskites. However, most Ln(3+)-doped double perovskites exhibit a low luminescence efficiency and a high excitation energy and/or require doping with multiple ions which result in complex compositions. Herein, we demonstrate that the Ln(3+) doping (Ln = Yb, Er, Nd) in the layered double perovskite Cs4MnBi2Cl12 enables multimodal luminescence, that is, the orange-red emission from the d-d transition of Mn2+, the efficient ultraviolet light excited near-infrared (NIR) emissions of Ln(3+) and the upconversion emissions in both Yb- and Yb/Er-doped systems. In addition, the NIR emissions of Ln(3+) can also be excited by blue and green light benefiting from the energy transfer from Mn2+ to Ln(3+). Finally, taking advantage of the multimodal luminescence in the Ln(3+)-doped Cs4MnBi2Cl12 phosphor, a preliminary anti-counterfeiting application is demonstrated. We highlight that the particular chemical composition (comprising Bi3+ and Mn2+) and the sandwich-type Bi-Mn-Bi layered crystal structure facilitate the light absorption and the energy transfer from Bi3+ to Ln(3+) and Mn2+ to Ln(3+), demonstrating the importance of the rational selection and design of double perovskite host materials for Ln(3+) doping.

Low-dimensional perovskite halides have shown a great potential as X-ray detection materials because of efficient exciton emissions originating from strongly spatially localized charge carriers. Nonetheless, most of them have a scintillation yield far below their theoretical limits. Here, it is found that the harvesting efficiency of produced charge carriers can be significantly enhanced via a small amount of In+ doping in these highly localized structures. A bright and sensitive zero-dimensional Cs3Cu2I5:In+ halide with efficient and tunable dual emission is reported. The radioluminescence emission of Cs3Cu2I5:In+ crystals under X-ray excitation consists of a self-trapped exciton emission at 460 nm and an In+-related emission at 620 nm at room temperature. In+ doping enhances the photoluminescence quantum efficiency (PLQY) of Cs3Cu2I5 from 68.1% to 88.4%. Benefiting from the higher PLQY, Cs3Cu2I5:In+ can achieve an excellent X-ray detection limit of 96.2 nGy(air ) s(-1), and a superior scintillation yield of 53 000 photons per MeV, which is comparable to commercial CsI:Tl single crystals. As a result, a remarkable X-ray imaging resolution of 18 line pairs mm(-1) is demonstrated, which is so far a record resolution for single crystal perovskite-based flat-panel detectors. These results highlight the importance of efficient harvesting of carriers (and excitons) in low-dimensional perovskites for radiation detection applications.

Abstract :

卤化物钙钛矿材料由于其优异的光电性质成为近几年的研究热点之一。钙钛矿太阳能电池的光电转换效率在短短几年内已超过25%,钙钛矿材料在光电二极管、光电探测器、激光器等光电器件中也表现出良好的应用前景。钙钛矿材料及器件性能的进一步提高和稳定性提升是研究人员重点关注的问题。各种改善钙钛矿材料的光电性质和稳定性的策略也被不断提出,其中,应变工程被发现可有效改善钙钛矿材料的光电性质和器件性能,为钙钛矿材料器件性能的优化提供了新的研究视角。本文从应力应变的基本概念入手,介绍应力应变如何影响钙钛矿材料的器件性能,以及总结了对钙钛矿材料施加应力应变的策略,最后本文对应变工程改善钙钛矿材料的器件性能这一新的研究视...
