Abstract :
Dear Editor, Over the past decades, cooperative control and distributed optimization have gained significant research attention due to their broad applications such as signal processing, robotics, and social networks [1], [2]. As a fundamental component of distributed control and optimization, the issue of average consensus has become a recurring topic of interest [3], [4]. To achieve average consensus, it is essential to establish a distributed algorithm with local information under which each node is able to adjust its own behavior by exchanging information with its neighbors instead of relying on a central node.

Abstract :
In this article, the practical fixed-time fault-tolerant consensus problem of a class of first-order nonlinear multiagent systems with actuator faults is investigated. Owing to the existence of uncertain actuator failures (multiplicative faults and additive faults) and non-linearities, it is challenging to study the fixed-time consensus problem of such multiagent systems in a fully distributed approach. To get over this challenge, a fully distributed adaptive protocol that utilizes adaptive techniques is proposed. Under this control protocol, multiagent systems can achieve consensus, and by adjusting controller parameters, the consensus error can converge to the acceptable bounded region in a fixed time. In addition, due to the introduction of adaptive parameters, the design of the control protocol is not dependent on any global network topology information, which means the control protocol is fully distributed. Therefore, the proposed scheme has better scalability and wider applicability. Finally, the simulation results are proposed to validate the fault-tolerant ability and fully distributed characteristics of the presented scheme.

Abstract :
In this article, the dissolved oxygen (DO) concentration control problem in wastewater treatment process (WWTP) is studied. Unlike existing control strategies that control DO concentration at a fixed value, here we develop a different control framework. Under the proposed control framework, an intelligent control method of DO concentration based on reinforcement learning (RL) algorithm is presented to resolve the DO concentration control problem. By using the deep deterministic policy gradient (DDPG) algorithm, the DO concentration of the fifth tank in the activated sludge reactor can be adjusted dynamically. In addition, by designing two different reward functions and by analysing the relationships among effluent quality, energy consumption, and DO concentration, the target of energy-saving and emission-reducing is achieved. The simulation results indicate that the designed control method can reduce energy consumption while ensuring that the effluent quality meet the specified standards.

Abstract :
In this article, we propose a dual-mode event-triggered predictive control method for nonlinear systems with bounded disturbances. The proposed method contains two triggering mechanisms, namely, the hybrid threshold-based event-triggered model predictive control (HETMPC) mechanism and the event-triggered linear quadratic regulator mechanism. The former triggering mechanism is designed based on the error between the real state and the optimal state and also the disturbance information acted on the investigated system. Compared with the traditional fixed triggering threshold, the designed HETMPC has a fewer triggering numbers and reduces the computational burden of online real-time optimization. This event-triggered mechanism will be adopted before the states go into the terminal invariant set. The latter event-triggered mechanism is designed based on the derivation of the system state and it will be adopted after the states enter the terminal invariant set. The feasibility and the input-to-state practical stability analysis of the designed strategy is presented. Some simulations, including the application to a mass-spring-damper system, are provided to show the correctness and feasibility of the designed algorithms.

Abstract :
It is commonly believed that the Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional method plays an important role in obtaining input-to-state stability conditions of systems with interval time-varying delays. For a system with an interval time-varying delay, an appropriate functional should be constructed during applying the method. Nevertheless, the delay has an interesting property that the delay in different delay intervals can have varying impacts on the system. In a way, the property is not considered adequately for the Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional method, which may give rise to conservative conditions. This article proposes a new input-to-state stability analysis method by taking advantage of the ignored property. When the new method is adopted, multiple functionals are constructed for the delay in the different delay intervals. This means that the multiple functionals method is more applicable in practice than the Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional method. With the help of the proposed method, new input-to-state stability conditions for linear delay systems are derived. A numerical example is presented to show that the obtained conditions are effective. At last, the newly derived conditions are applied to power systems with delayed load frequency control schemes.

Abstract :
This paper is concerned with the event-triggered model predictive control (ETMPC) problem of nitrogen removal process in the wastewater treatment plants. The main objective of this paper is to design an event-triggered control strategy such that the computation burden can be reduced effectively while maintaining the desired system performance. Unlike existing model predictive control (MPC), the controller in the proposed ETMPC takes action when certain event conditions are satisfied, and thus can reduce the communication and computation resource caused by continuous controller update. The triggering condition is designed according to the system output error and the prediction step of the MPC controller, and thus is easy to check. Moreover, a state space model of the studied nitrogen removal process is built, based on which the ETMPC is designed. The controller is developed to maintain the tracking performance of the dissolved oxygen concentration and nitrate nitrogen concentration by adjusting two key variables in the WWTPs. The stability analysis of the closed-loop system under the designed control strategy is conducted by using the Lyapunov stability theory. Some simulations are conducted to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method. Simulation results show that the proposed method can greatly reduce the number of controller update by up to 60% compared with MPC, whereas the ISE only increases by about 0.1, which is acceptable for WWTPs.

Abstract :
In this brief, emphasis is placed on the global uniform asymptotic stability analysis of a switched system formulated by cyclic or periodic switching laws. First, several concepts and properties of cyclic or periodically switched systems are defined. Next, by using the cycle dwell time or cyclic period time switching method, new stability criteria for cyclic or periodically switched systems with all Hurwitz stable sub-systems are obtained in the context of general solutions. Moreover, new stability conditions for cyclic or periodically switched systems with partially unstable sub-modes are derived in the framework of general solutions. Finally, two examples are provided to demonstrate the feasibility of the developed criteria.

Abstract :
The secure consensus problem of multiagent systems with fixed topology and external disturbances is investigated in this paper. Along with external disturbances, the studied multiagent system is also subjected to denial-of-service (DoS) attacks. First, some graph-based Lyapunov functions are presented for the robust consensus analysis. Second, the duration and attack frequency are introduced to quantitatively analyze the DoS attacks' effects on the consensus. Third, the gain of the controller is acquired by solving an algebraic Riccati equation (ARE), which can always be guaranteed compared with solving linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). Finally, a numerical simulation of a microgrid test system is provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed strategy.

Abstract :
The stability and stabilization synthesis problems of the switched positive systems (SPSs) with external disturbances are studied in this paper. For the studied SPSs, a weighted mode-dependent average dwell time (WMDADT) switched strategy has been adopted to analyze the above-mentioned issue, based on which the deficiencies of the existing ADT and MDADT switching techniques can be overcomed. By using the adopted strategy, some improved stability conditions that have less conservativeness are presented for the systems under investigation. Moreover, based on the developed stability conditions, an efficient controller design method avoiding computational complexity and eliminating the rank requirement of the controller is presented. In the end, the effectiveness of the method is verified by two numerical examples. (C) 2022 The Franklin Institute. Published by Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
