Abstract :

Background: Polymer-coated mesoporous silica nanoparticles have attracted immense research interest in stimuli-responsive drug delivery systems due to their drug-releasing ability on demand at specific sites in response to external or internal signals. However, the relationships between the coated-copolymer encapsulation and drug delivery performance in the hybrid nanocomposites was rarely reported. Therefore, the main objectives of the present work are to explore the cell uptake, cellular internalization, cytotoxicity, and hemolysis performance of the fluorescent hybrid materials with different polymer-encapsulated amounts. Methods: Using (2-(2-aminoethyl)-6-(dimethylamino)-1H-benzo[de]isoquinoline-1,3(2H)-dione)-doped poly[(N-isopropylacrylamide)-co-(acrylic acid)] (PAN) as a shell and bimodal mesoporous silicas (BMMs) as a core, the dual pH- and temperature-responsive mesoporous PAN@M-BMMs with the fluorescent performances were synthesized via a radical polymerization approach. The effects of the PAN-coated thicknesses on their physicochemical properties and structural features were demonstrated via XRD and SAXS patterns, SEM and TEM images, FT-IR spectra, and TG analysis. Their mass fractal (D-m ) evolutions were elucidated on the basis of the SAXS patterns and fluorescence spectra. Results: The D-m values increased from 2.74 to 2.87 with an increase of the PAN-coated amount from 17 to 26.5% along with the particle size from 76.1 to 85.6 nm and blue-shifting of their fluorescent emission wavelength from 470 to 444 nm. Meanwhile, the PAN@M-BMMs exhibited a high ibuprofen (IBU) loading capacity (13.8%) and strong dual pH-/temperature-responsive drug-releasing performances (83.1%) at pH 7.4 and 25 degrees C, as comparison with that (17.9%) at pH 2.0 and 37 degrees C. The simulated results confirmed that the adsorption energy decreased from -67.18 kJ/mol for pure BMMs to -116.76 kJ/mol for PAN@M-BMMs, indicating the PAN-grafting on the surfaces of the BMMs core was beneficial to improve its IBU-adsorption capacity. Its uptake in the HeLa cell line was performed via microplate readers, confocal microscopy, flow cytometry, and ICP measurement, showing a low cytotoxicity at a concentration up to 100 mu g/mL. Specially, P(0.2)AN@M-BMMs had a superior cellular uptake and fluorescence properties via the time-dependent uptake experiments, and exhibited the highest silicon content via the cellular internalization analysis, as compared to other carriers. Hemolysis tests confirmed the hemolysis rates below 5%. Conclusions: These demonstrations verified that PAN@M-BMMs should be a promising biomedical application prospect.

Abstract :

The purification and separation of CO2, CH4, and N-2 from biogas, flue gas, and coalbed gas for carbon capture and storage are main technology in mitigating the greenhouse effect. The Mg-MOF-74@clinoptilolite (Mg-MOF-74@CP) composites are successfully synthesized through an interfacial growth of Mg-MOF-74 onto the surfaces of the synthesized CP for adsorption and separation of CO2, CH4, and N-2. The structural characteristics of the resultant composites are systematically characterized by various characterizations. In particular, small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) patterns are used to elucidate the fractal structural evolutions of the parent CP, Mg-MOF-74, and Mg-MOF-74@CP. Meanwhile, the single-component adsorption isotherms for CO2, CH4, and N-2 are demonstrated. The breakthrough measurements on CO2/CH4 and cycling tests on CO2 are conducted. The results elucidate that the CO2 equilibrium capacity of Mg-MOF-74@CP is higher than that of parent CP, displaying a high affinity toward CO2, the longer breakthrough time and enhancement of CO2 uptake exhibit a better separation performance. The cycling tests on CO2 reveal that the Mg-MOF-74@CP could be used repetitively, promoting its practical application in an energy-saving and economical way. Additionally, the adsorption isotherms and adsorption sites of the prepared Mg-MOF-74@CP are simulated using the Grand Canonical Monte Carlo (GCMC) method, elucidating the mechanism of the gas separation performance of Mg-MOF-74@CP.

Well-dispersed Ni-nanoparticles in the lamellas of the synthesized clinoptilolite for CH4 and CO2 reforming SCIE

Abstract :

The impregnation and ion exchange methods were employed to prepare the Ni-modified clinoptilolites (CPs). Their physicochemical properties and structural features were evaluated by various characterizations, such as XRD patterns, SEM and TEM images, Raman and FT-IR spectra, XPS and H 2 -TPR, N 2 sorption isotherms, and TG analysis. The results demonstrated that the loaded Ni nanoparticles were highly dispersed on the lamellar surfaces of the synthesized CPs. Meanwhile, their CH 4 and CO 2 dry reforming reactions (DRM) at 500 -900 degrees C were conducted utilizing Ni species as active sites. The results demonstrated that the Ni-loaded CPs exhibited greater catalytic activity than the Ni-exchanged CPs, besides that, the Ni-loaded CPs demonstrated the highest catalytic stability at 700 degrees C. However, the carbon deposition of the Ni-loaded CPs seemed more difficult to eliminate than that of the Ni-exchanged CPs in the DRM durations. These results elucidate the excellent performances of the developed Ni-modified CPs for designing more stable and efficient Ni-based DRM catalysts.

Abstract :

The present work evaluated the removal performances of Ni2+, Cd2+, Sr2+, Mn2+, and Fe3+ from an aqueous solution using a comparison between synthetic clinoptilolite (SCP) and natural CP (NCP). Unlike previous demonstrations that treated each metal ion individually, these five metal ions and the used adsorbents were combined in a single treatment and explored via various characterizations, such as XRD patterns, SEM images, N2 sorption isotherms, ICP, and AAS analysis. The results revealed that the capacities of SCP at pH 3.0-8.0 and 25-75 degrees C were nearly 20 times higher than those of NCP, showing 2000, 1720, 1875, 1510, and 22 mg g- 1, for Ni2+, Fe3+, Cd2+, Mn2+, and Sr2, respectively. The reason is mostly attributed to its purity and perfect crystal lattice. The kinetic behaviors in both cases indicated that the pseudo-2nd-order model provided a better description. Their adsorption behaviors exhibited a better fit with the Freundlich models on the removal of Ni2+, Cd2+, and Mn2+, the Langmuir equation on the removal of Fe3+, and both Freundlich and Langmuir on the removal of Sr2+, respectively. The thermodynamic findings indicated that the SCP was used to be faster, more spontaneous, and had a better favorable adsorption performance than the NCP. Additionally, five times recyclability and different stability tests further supported the dominant adsorbent nature of using SCP as an adsorbent.

Abstract :

Clinoptilolite (CP) was successfully synthesized via a hydrothermal route in the presence of polyethylene glycol (PEG), and it was then delaminated by washing using Zn2+ containing acid. HKUST-1, as one kind of the Cu-based MOFs, showed a high CO2 adsorption capacity owing to its large pore volume and specific surface area. In the present work, we selected one of the most efficient ways for preparing the HKUST-1@CP compounds via coordination between exchanged Cu2+ and ligand (trimesic acid). Their structural and textural properties were characterized by XRD, SAXS, N-2 sorption isotherms, SEM, and TG-DSC profiles. Particularly, the effect of the additive PEG (average molecular weight of 600) on the induction (nucleation) periods and growth behaviors were detailed and investigated in the hydrothermal crystallization procedures of synthetic CPs. The corresponding activation energies of induction (E-n) and growth (E-g) periods during crystallization intervals were calculated. Meanwhile, the pore size of the inter-particles of HKUST-1@CP was 14.16 nm, and the BET specific area and pore volume were 55.2 m(2)/g and 0.20 cm(3)/g, respectively. Their CO2 and CH4 adsorption capacities and selectivity were preliminarily explored, showing 0.93 mmol/g for HKUST-1@CP at 298 K with the highest selective factor of 5.87 for CO2/CH4, and the dynamic separation performance was evaluated in column breakthrough experiments. These results suggested an efficient way of preparing zeolites and MOFs composites that is conducive to being a promising adsorbent for applications in gas separation.

采用后嫁接法将咪唑盐离子液体负载在SBA-15上制备了多相催化剂SBA-15-Imi并将其用于CO2环加成反应,研究了介孔氧化硅负载离子液体催化剂的失活机理.采用XRD、SEM、TEM、TG、FT-IR、EA等多种表征手段探究了潜在的失活原因;同时将基于分形理论、Porod理论的SAXS数据用于催化剂失活原因的分析,对催化剂的微观结构进行深入的研究.结果表明:催化剂循环使用5次后产率降低了 74%,失活原因主要是离子液体流失及有机物杂质沉积.

Abstract :

Developing effective intelligent nanocarriers is highly desirable for fluorescence imaging and therapeutic applications but remains challenging. Using a vinyl-grafted BMMs (bimodal mesoporous SiO2 materials) as a core and PAN ((2-aminoethyl)-6-(dimethylamino)-1H-benzo[de]isoquinoline-1,3(2H)-dione))-dispersed dual pH/thermal-sensitive poly(N-isopropylacrylamide-co-acrylic acid) as a shell, PAN@BMMs with strong fluorescence and good dispersibility were prepared. Their mesoporous features and physicochemical properties were extensively characterized via XRD patterns, N-2 adsorption-desorption analysis, SEM/TEM images, TGA profiles, and FT-IR spectra. In particular, their mass fractal dimension (d(m)) features based on SAXS patterns combined with fluorescence spectra were successfully obtained to evaluate the uniformity of the fluorescence dispersions, showing that the d(m) values increased from 2.49 to 2.70 with an increase of the AN-additive amount from 0.05 to 1%, along with the red shifting of their fluorescent emission wavelength from 471 to 488 nm. The composite (PAN@BMMs-I-0.1) presented a densification trend and a slight decrease in peak (490 nm) intensity during the shrinking process. Its fluorescent decay profiles confirmed two fluorescence lifetimes of 3.59 and 10.62 ns. The low cytotoxicity obtained via in vitro cell survival assay and the efficient green imaging performed via HeLa cell internalization suggested that the smart PAN@BMM composites are potential carriers for in vivo imaging and therapy.

Abstract :

The random lamellae of the synthetic CP were synthesized with a hydrothermal approach using o-Phenylenediamine (OPD) as a modifier. The decreases in the order degree of the CP synthesized in the presence of the OPD resulted from the loss of long-range order in a certain direction. Subsequently, the ultrasonic treatment and washing were conducive to further facilitate the disordered arrangements of its lamellae. The possible promotion mechanism regarding the nucleation and growth behaviors of the sol-gel particles was proposed. The fractal evolutions of the aluminosilicate species with crystallization time implied that the aluminosilicate species became gradually smooth to rough during the crystallization procedures since the amorphous structures transformed into flower-like morphologies. Their gas adsorption and separation performances indicated that the adsorption capacity of CO2 at 273 K reached up to 2.14 mmol & BULL;g(-1) at 1 bar, and the selective factor (CO2/CH4) up to 3.4, much higher than that of the CPs synthesized without additive OPD. The breakthrough experiments displayed a longer breakthrough time and enhancement of CO2 uptake, showing better performance for CO2/CH4 separation. The cycling test further highlighted their efficiency for CO2/CH4 separation.

Abstract :

本发明公开了一种在斜发沸石表面原位生长微晶的复合材料制备方法,包括:先利用表面活性剂及其水热合成方法改性斜发沸石,并分别采用无机酸溶液处理和硅烷偶联剂修饰将有机配体嫁接在改性斜发沸石的表面,从而通过配位键将微晶与斜发沸石进行复合,以制得斜发沸石与微晶复合材料。该复合材料可有效的改善单一斜发沸石比表面积较小的问题,从而增强了气体的吸附分离能力,该方法通过共价键在斜发沸石表面原位复合微晶,增强了微晶与斜发沸石之间的相互作用力,从而使得复合材料结构更加稳定,在纯化煤层气(吸附分离甲烷与氮气)中表现出较强的应用潜力。

Abstract :

Using acrylic acid (AA) as pH-responsive monomer, and N-isopropyl acrylamide (NIPAM) as temperatureresponsive monomer, the stimuli-responsive P(NIPAM-co-AA) copolymers were prepared via soap-free emulsion polymerization. Their constructed porous structures, swelling-shrinking behaviors, and controlled drug delivery performances were systematically demonstrated via various characterizations. Particularly, the smallangle X-ray scattering (SAXS) method was employed to elucidate their fractal features and the structural evolutions with increasing AA content, showing the occurrences from dense aggregates (mass fractal (Dm) value of 2.92) to loose networks (surface fractal (Ds) value of 2.18) with statistical self-similarity. Meanwhile, the ibuprofen (IBU) was used as a model drug, their temperature/pH-dual sensitive delivery and related mechanism were discussed on the basis of the fractal demonstrations. The results showed that the cross-linking networks with an interconnected open-cell skeleton and abundant large pores were beneficial to improve the adsorptiondiffusion performances of the drug delivery, while the drug-releasing kinetics of P(NIPAM-co-AA)-30 followed a non-Fickian diffusion mechanism. Specially, the fractal evolutions of the obtained copolymers along with the drug loading and releasing behaviors were evaluated via SAXS patterns. In which, the drug-loaded copolymers presented the Ds characteristics with the increased amounts of monomer AA added. While, the fractal features varied from Ds value of 2.40 to Dm value of 2.76 along with sustained drug releasing in pH 2.0 at 25 degrees C, indicating that the structural transformation of the used copolymers occurred from dense (Dm value of 2.86) to loose (Dm value of 2.76) with the extension of release time. These demonstrations suggested that the resultant P(NIPAM-coAA) hydrogel is a potential intelligent-responsive drug carrier for targeted delivery.
