Abstract :
Multi-particle dampers (M-PD) can be potentially applied in civil engineering because of their good damping effect and wide frequency band. However, because of their complex nonlinear mechanical properties and the lack of a reasonable mechanical model, their development and application in practical engineering are limited. Therefore, without considering the accumulation of particles, an equivalent inertia single-particle mechanical model (EISM) is proposed by introducing an inerter to consider the effect of particle rolling on the damping mechanism and performance. Dynamic analyses of the EISM single degree of freedom system in the non-collision stage and the periodic motion after collision are performed based on the analytical solution. The influence of inertance on the frequency response curve of dynamic amplification factors in the no-collision stage and the analytical solution for the symmetric two-impacts-per-cycle motion are discussed in detail. Numerical simulations and experimental verification are conducted to verify the rationality of the above theoretical analysis. The results show that EISM can further clarify the nonlinear characteristics of M-PD. The inertance has a significant influence on the frequency response curve of the dynamic amplification factors as well as the boundary conditions and stability of the analytical solution of the symmetric two-impacts-per-cycle motion. The proposed EISM and the corresponding theoretical analysis in this study can theoretically support further analysis of the vibration reduction mechanism and design of M-PDs. © 2021 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

Abstract :
A non-packed particle damper (NPPD) is an advantageous passive damping device with a wide frequency band and good robustness. However, its damping mechanism remains unclear, and its application for controlling vibrations in civil engineering structures is being explored. By analysing the particle motion state, this paper proposes a double inertia mass equivalent model (DIMEM) to reflect the interaction between particles. The effect of inertia was introduced in the DIMEM to consider the rolling effect of particles on the damping performance of the NPPD. An electromagnetic vibration table test of a single-storey frame structure with an NPPD was designed and performed. The parameter determination method and applicability of the DIMEM were also evaluated based on experimental and theoretical analyses. Furthermore, the effects of the parameters on the damping performance of the NPPD were systematically analysed. The results confirm that the equivalent model can reflect the damping performance and mechanism of the NPPD. The particle group inertia is an inherent property of the NPPD. With an increase in the ratio of inertance to particle mass, the optimal vibration damping performance deteriorates under harmonic excitation, and the corresponding equivalent connection stiffness gradually increases. The equivalent connection stiffness, additional mass ratio, recovery coefficient, and acceleration normalised collision distance significantly affect the damping performance and mechanism. However, the effects of the equivalent connection damping coefficient and rolling friction coefficient are negligible. The proposed DIMEM and the corresponding parameter analysis can provide an important reference for the application of NPPDs in civil engineering. © 2020

Abstract :
The seismic performance and design method of fabricated concrete bridge piers limit their applications in complex and harsh environments. In this study, a continuous bridge pier in an 8-degree seismic fortification intensity area was considered as a prototype. Two 1/3-scale models were designed and manufactured. The specimens were connected via a grouted sleeve connections (SFP) and a grouted sleeve prestressing tendon composite connections (SSFP), respectively. Moreover, a cast-in-place 1/3-scale model (reinforcement concrete pier, RCP) was designed as a comparison specimen. Quasi-static experiments were performed on these three specimens. The seismic performance of the specimens was analysed according to the failure phenomena, bearing capacity, displacement ductility, stiffness, energy-dissipation capacity, and residual deformation. On these basis, a bearing-capacity estimation method for SFP (including SSFP) was developed and validated. The results indicated that the damage to the SFP and SSFP mainly accumulated along the top and bottom of the sleeves. The plastic hinge area of the SFP and SSFP moved up or down. Thus, the damage to the SFP and SSFP was concentrated at the joints. Cracks first occurred at the seam of the two fabricated specimens when the loading drift was relatively small. Then, the concrete at the loading edge of the joints was crushed. Furthermore, the longitudinal bars yielded and broke. Finally, the specimens failed. Compared with the RCP, the SFP and the SSFP had larger yield and ultimate displacements. The bearing capacities of the RCP and the SFP were similar. However, the bearing capacity of the SSFP was significantly higher. The bearing capacities of the SFP and SSFP did not decrease significantly before the specimens failed. Compared with the RCP, the SFP had a lower initial stiffness, a lower stiffness degradation rate, similar displacement ductility, smaller residual displacement, and less cumulative energy dissipation. The SSFP was better than the SFP with regard to the displacement ductility, initial stiffness, and cumulative energy dissipation. Thus, the SFP and SSFP can satisfy the seismic requirements of high-intensity areas. The proposed bearing-capacity estimation method can be used for the seismic design and evaluation of SFPs and SSFPs.

针对调谐质量阻尼器(TMD)和颗粒阻尼器的减振特点及各自不足,提出将并联式单向单颗粒阻尼器(PSSPD)与TMD有机结合的复合减振技术方案—PSSPD与TMD并联体系。在深入剖析其减振特性的基础上,将颗粒与受控结构之间的碰撞力等效为脉冲力,建立复合减振体系力学模型和方程。采用时域和频域结合的方法并对模型进行分析并求解,使求解过程直接、无需求解微分方程且易于求解特殊激励形式动力响应。提出简谐激励下复合减振结构系统的最优减振参数设计方法,对该系统进行性能参数分析,验证了力学模型的精度及优化方法的可行性。建立该复合减振体系在地震动下的参数优化方法并对其合理性和准确性进行验证。最后,对PSSPD、TM...

Abstract :
桥梁伸缩装置(以下简称伸缩缝)使用环境恶劣、受荷形式复杂,易出现多种病害.伸缩缝病害会造成桥梁耐久性降低,车致桥梁动力响应加重等不利现象.因此,伸缩缝病害机理及其处置方法和考虑伸缩缝参数影响的车-桥耦合动力响应规律研究受到了广泛关注.本文综述了桥梁伸缩缝力学性能,常见病害及其影响,病害机理及其处置方法等的发展现状;重点讨论了考虑伸缩缝参数及其变化影响的桥梁动力响应的研究进展及存在的问题;展望了未来桥梁伸缩缝研究中有待解决的关键问题.

Abstract :
A double-layer tuned mass damper (DTMD) has advantages of wide damping frequency band and strong robustness. At present, there is a lack of seismic design methods for high-rise structures based on DTMDs. In this study, a DTMD parameter optimisation method was proposed, with the objective of minimising the peak displacement response of a first N-order vibration modal with a vibration mass participation factor of 85%. Then, a scale model of a high-rise structure was fabricated, along with a corresponding DTMD. Different types of excitations were chosen to clarify the dynamic responses of the model with and without the DTMD, including Site-II ground motions, long-period (LP) ground motions without pulses, and near-fault pulse-type (NFPT) ground motions. The results indicate that the dynamic responses of high-rise structures under LP and NFPT ground motions are much greater than those under Site-II ground motions. The DTMD can effectively reduce the absolute displacement response, acceleration response, and strain response at the top floor of the test model. However, the DTMD has a time delay in providing the damping effect. A smaller damping ratio between the upper TMD and the controlled structure will lead to a more significant damping effect for the DTMD.
