Effect of Li concentration on second harmonic generation from widegap ZnMgO thin films SCIE
期刊论文 | 2024 , 63 (8) | JAPANESE JOURNAL OF APPLIED PHYSICS
Abstract&Keyword Cite

Abstract :

Widegap ZnMgO thin films hold great potential for applications to the high-efficiency generation of deep UV laser via frequency conversion, because of low light propagation loss and reversible polarization. In this work, we studied the effect of Li concentration on the second harmonic generation (SHG) from a-axis oriented ZnMgO thin films with an optical bandgap of about 3.96 eV. The SHG intensity per unit thickness from the ZnMgO thin film with a small Li concentration is approximately 10.7 times larger than the one without Li incorporation. The Li incorporation obviously enlarges interplanar spacing of ( 1120 ) plane and reduces the leakage current by three orders of magnitude. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy measurements suggest the Li incorporation enhances SHG via enhancing electronic polarization. These findings uncover defect complexes based on Li interstitials in oxygen octahedron play a very important role in enhancing the nonlinear polarization of widegap ZnMgO thin films under optical frequency electric field.

Hybrid Plasmon Mode Enhancing the Lifetime and Forward-Directional Emission for Solution-Processed OLEDs SCIE
期刊论文 | 2024 , 34 (33) | ADVANCED FUNCTIONAL MATERIALS
Abstract&Keyword Cite

Abstract :

Ongoing research is dedicated to tackling the trade-off between out-coupling efficiency, transparency, and conductivity for transparent conductive electrodes (TCEs), owing to their continuously increasing application in smartphones/watches, augmented/virtual reality, and naked eye 3D projection. Herein, an aluminum substrate-mediated hybrid plasmon mode is deliberately embedded in solution-processed organic light-emitting diode (SOLED). The created TCE with a 6-nm-Al film-mediated indium tin oxide (ITO) displays an average transmittance of 88.3%, an average ultra-low haze of 0.2%, and a sheet resistance of 9.5 omega sq-1, surpassing commercial ITO substrates. By precisely controlling the geometry of this aluminium film/dielectric spacer/silver nanoparticle (Al film-TAPC-Ag NP) coupled system, a hybrid dipolar, and quadrupolar mode is required, providing further enhanced scattering strength and plasmon coupling effect in the resultant OLED. These Al film-TAPC-Ag NP system mediated SOLEDs display improved decay rate of triplet excitons, elevated electroluminescence out-coupling efficiency, and suppressed waveguide confinement. Consequently, enhanced stability by 10% after 580 h storage without encapsulation, forward-directed emission with a +/- 70 degrees light-emitting angle, and a 22% current efficiency enhancement are simultaneously realized, compared with conventional SOLEDs. This work presents new opportunities for LED design and for the implementation of solution-processed LEDs in large-area high-performance displays. A hybrid plasmon mode for high-performing solution-processed OLED is presented. By coupling silver nanoparticles to a dielectric layer mediated aluminum film, the resulting emitter displays an improved decay rate of triplet excitons, elevated electroluminescence out-coupling efficiency, and suppressed waveguide confinement. This approach has the potential for applications in various optoelectronic devices, including light-emitting diodes and photovoltaic devices. image

Abstract&Keyword Cite

Abstract :

As a new type of optical devices, random lasers are unique in concept and principle. Due to the unique characteristics of optical field, simple structure, easy preparation and low cost, random lasers have wide application prospects in fields of imaging, sensing, and photonic chips. The optical feedback in the random laser is provided by the multiple scattering in the disordered gain medium. The inner disorder determines many emission characteristics of random lasers, such as low spatial coherence, random emission wavelength and direction. The output directivity of random lasing is an important factor in many applications, which can be optimized by transferring the random laser on fiber facet. Meanwhile, the random laser on fiber facet is of benefit to miniaturization and integration of random lasers. In this review, a brief introduction is given about the basic concept, typical characteristics and control methods of random lasers. Importantly, focusing on optical fiber facet-based random lasers, we emphatically summarized the design ideas, preparation methods, emission characteristics, and application in imaging/sensing. Besides, the development trend of optical fiber facet-based random lasers is prospected.

Multiple-beam colloidal quantum dot lasers in a waveguide-grating-waveguide microcavity SCIE

WoS CC Cited Count: 2
Abstract&Keyword Cite

Abstract :

In this work, multiple-beam colloidal quantum dot lasers are achieved in a double waveguide-grating (waveguide-grating-waveguide, W-G-W) microcavity. The grating is fabricated simply using interference lithography, and CdSe/CdS/ZnS colloidal quantum dots (CQDs) are spin-coated as the gain to form an active waveguide-grating structure. The photoresist film, which is not completely etched to the bottom, provides another waveguide-grating structure. In the W-G-W structure, low-threshold multiple-beam laser output is realized under optical pumping with emission peaks at 664.6 and 645.2 nm. The oblique laser is derived from a quasi-propagation mode. The thresholds of the two laser modes are 22.7 and 28.3 mu J/cm(2), respectively, and both laser modes are TE0 modes. In addition, the emission wavelengths of the two modes of the designed distributed feedback laser can be flexibly tuned by changing the thickness of the CQDs' waveguide layer. The presence of quasi-propagation modes provides another method for designing compact laser sources, which could help in the design of wireless communication networks, hyperspectral 3D sensing, and color laser displays.

Two wavelength band emission WGM lasers via photo-isomerization SCIE

Abstract&Keyword Cite

Abstract :

Wavelength switchable microcavity is indispensable component for various integrated photonic devices. However, achieving two wavelength band emission of the whispering gallery mode (WGM) laser is challenging. Here, we propose a strategy to realize two wavelength band emission WGM lasers activated by photo-isomerization based on excited-state intramolecular proton transfer (ESIPT) process in isolated/coupled polymer microfiber cavities. The WGM microcavity is built by highly polarized organic intramolecular charge-transfer (ICT) dye molecules. The two cooperative gain states of ICT dye molecules can be controlled by optimizing energy levels. Thereby, the lasing wavelength can be reversibly switched under photo-isomerization activated in the ESIPT energy-level progress. The photonic bar code can be generated by following the strategy of proposed design. This work provides a promising route to achieve switchable WGM laser in on-chip photonic integration.

Abstract :

Functional microfibers have attracted extensive attention due to their potential in health monitoring, radiation cooling, power management and luminescence. Among these, polymer fiber-based microlasers have plentiful applications due to their merits of full color, high quality factor and simple fabrication. However, developing a facile approach to fabricate stable microfiber lasing devices for high-sensitivity thermal sensing is still challenging. In this research, we propose a design of a stable and transferable membrane inlaid with whispering-gallery-mode plasmon hybrid microlaser arrays for thermal sensing. By integrating plasmonic gold nanorods with polymer lasing microfiber arrays that are embedded in the polydimethylsiloxane matrix, whispering-gallery-mode lasing arrays with high quality are achieved. Based on the thermo-optical effect of the membrane, a tuning range of 1.462 nm for the lasing peak shift under temperature variation from 30.6 degrees C to 38.7 degrees C is obtained. The ultimate thermal sensing sensitivity can reach up to 0.181 nm degrees C-1 and the limit of detection is 0.131 degrees C, with a high figure of merit of 2.961 degrees C-1. Moreover, a stable laser linewidth can be maintained within the tuning range due to plasmon-improved photon confinement and PDMS-reduced scattering loss. This work is expected to provide a facile approach for the fabrication of high-sensitivity on-chip thermometry devices. We propose a design of stable and transferable membrane inlaid with whispering-gallery-mode plasmon hybrid microlaser arrays for sensitive and stable thermal sensing.

Tunable random laser based on hybrid plasmonic enhancement SCIE

Abstract :

This research investigates the hybridized plasmonic response of silver film combined with dispersed silver (Ag) nanowires (NWs) to random laser emission. The mixture of Rhodamine B (RhB) dye and polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) matrix is taken as the gain medium for random lasing, and the silver combination provides feedback mechanisms for light trapping. Importantly, film roughness and the coupling between localized and extended (delocalized) surface plasmons play a vital role in RL performance evaluation. The laser threshold is strongly influenced by film thickness attributed to surface roughness. Furthermore, the variation in film thickness also supports the wavelength modulation of 9 nm (597 nm to 606 nm), which results from the reabsorption of RhB. Additionally, the intriguing capability of emission wavelength tuning under the variation of temperature facilitates exciting prospects for precise wavelength control in plasmonic devices.(c) 2023 Optica Publishing Group under the terms of the Optica Open Access Publishing Agreement

Determination of Enantiomeric Excess by Optofluidic Microlaser near Exceptional Point SCIE
期刊论文 | 2023 , 11 (7) | ADVANCED SCIENCE
Abstract&Keyword Cite

Abstract :

Enantiomeric excess (ee) is an essential indicator of chiral drug purification in the pharmaceutical industry. However, to date the ee determination of unknown concentration enantiomers generally involves two separate techniques for chirality and concentration measurement. Here, a whispering-gallery mode (WGM) based optofluidic microlaser near exceptional point to achieve the ee determination under unknown concentration with a single technique is proposed. Exceptional point induces the unidirectional WGM lasing, providing the optofluidic microlaser with the novel capability to measure chirality by polarization, in addition to wavelength-based concentration detection. The dual-parameters detection of optofluidic microlaser empowers it to achieve ee determination of various unknown enantiomers without additional concentration measurements, a feat that is challenging to accomplish with other methods. Featuring the sensitivity enhancement and miniature structure of the WGM sensors, the obtained chiroptical response of the present approach is approximate to 30-fold higher than that of the conventional optical rotation-based polarimeter, and the reagent consumption is reduced by three orders of magnitude. By inducing the exceptional point, the whispering-gallery mode-based optofluidic microlaser is enhanced with the novel capability to measure chirality of enantiomer by polarization, in addition to wavelength-based concentration detection. The dual-parameters detection of optofluidic microlaser empowers it to achieve enantiomeric excess determination of various unknown enantiomers by a single technique, a feat that is challenging to accomplish with other methods.image
