Research on the application scenarios of a smart bridge management platform: An analysis of mapping knowledge domain based on bridge management SCIE
期刊论文 | 2025 , 246 | MEASUREMENT
Abstract&Keyword Cite

Abstract :

The research on the application scenarios of smart bridge management platforms is of great significance to improve the efficiency and safety of bridge management. Although there have been extensive researches on bridge monitoring and displacement measurement, bridge management still faces the problems of insufficient intelligence and lack of application scenarios. Therefore, this paper adopts the mapping knowledge domain analysis method to systematically analyze the current status and development trends of bridge management research, and proposes the application scenarios of the future-oriented smart bridge management platforms. Research has found that bridge management research has gone through three stages of development, and the number of literatures has shown an exponential upward trend. China and the United States are the main research countries. Universities and colleges are the main research institutions, with obvious cross-disciplinary and fusion characteristics, and have formed core researchers and teams. The research themes focus on sensor-based bridge monitoring, bridge vibration and damage identification, bridge monitoring with vision and GPS fusion, and bridge monitoring based on vehicle dynamic response. With the rise of research hotspots such as "deep learning" and "machine learning" and the development of cutting-edge technologies such as the Internet of Things, the future smart bridge management platform will focus on application scenarios such as bridge health monitoring, all-weather traffic, and safety management. However, the implementation of these application scenarios still faces technical challenges such as sensor selection and layout optimization, data processing and fusion, as well as damage identification and evaluation accuracy. Future research should focus on using intelligent algorithms to optimize sensor layout and develop efficient multi-source data processing and fusion methods to promote the functional upgrading and application implementation of smart bridge management platforms.

Abstract :

Featured Application This study identifies factors influencing Human-driven vehicle (HDV) drivers' attitudes toward connected autonomous vehicles (CAVs), affirming that psychological characteristics significantly impact interactive driving choices. The findings hold vital policy implications for government agencies and CAV producers, guiding strategic decisions in the autonomous transportation landscape.Abstract Human-driven vehicles (HDVs) will share the road with connected autonomous vehicles (CAVs) in the near future. Accordingly, the investigation of the interactive behavior of HDV drivers toward CAVs is becoming critical. In this study, a questionnaire survey was first conducted. The heterogenous clusters of HDV drivers were revealed through the latent profile analysis based on the collected dataset, with the focus on their trust and familiarity with CAVs, their attitudes towards sharing the road with CAVs, and their risk perception and perceived behavior control when they faced the CAVs. Subsequently, the correlation between the respective latent cluster and several socio-demographic factors was understood based on the multinomial logistic regression model, and the choice behavior of each cluster in different interactive driving scenarios was revealed. Three vital findings were reported. (1) Three profile clusters of HDV drivers (i.e., negative individuals, neutral individuals, and positive individuals) were revealed. (2) The drivers of a low/middle income and with a long driving experience were more likely to be negative individuals, whereas the CAV experience can make drivers feel positive towards CAVs. (3) Negative individuals might give up on changing lanes when a CAV platoon driving was noticed in the target lanes; in addition, they might raise more rigorous requirements for vehicle spacing in the lane-changing process when finding CAVs driving in the target lanes. To be specific, negative and neutral individuals preferred driving in front of the CAV platoons. The findings can provide references for developing effective management measures or CAV control strategies for transportation systems.

Train Service Design for Rail Transit Cross-Line Operation Applying Virtual Coupling SCIE
期刊论文 | 2024 , 14 (15) | APPLIED SCIENCES-BASEL
Abstract&Keyword Cite

Abstract :

The cross-line operation (CO) of trains in urban rail transit is an effective method to efficiently satisfy transfer passenger travel demand as well as relieve the pressure of transfer stations. The primary problem of CO is designing train services to satisfy travel demand with an uneven spatial distribution of passengers. This study constructs a nonlinear integer programming model with a novel train operation scheme, i.e., virtual coupling (VC) technology, which allows the coupling/decoupling of trains on different lines at both ends of each operation zone. This scheme makes the train capacity equitably distributed in each operation zone, thereby balancing train capacity utilization over the whole CO system. Regarding the nonlinear characteristics of the proposed model, an adaptive simulated annealing genetic algorithm (ASA-GA) was designed to quickly generate high-quality solutions. Based on real-world data from the Beijing Changping Line and Line 13, the effectiveness of the proposed model and algorithm were verified. The computation results show that in comparison to a single grouping train composition scheme without CO, a VC scheme with CO would reduce operation costs by 46.8%, with 80.6% savings of train capacity equity. Furthermore, the average passenger residence time would be reduced by 25.9%.

Abstract&Keyword Cite

Abstract :

The excessive travel demand in the metro system during peak hours may cause platform congestion and reduce the comfort of the passengers. Thus, this article proposes an approach for integrally optimizing the train timetable and passenger control on an oversaturated metro line, to improve the comfort of passengers on the platform. Specifically, taking the short-term impact of the boarding/alighting passengers into account, a novel quantitative assessment method of the perceived waiting time, considering the impact of the platform passengers' density and passenger control strategy, named the generalized waiting time, is proposed. A mixed-integer nonlinear programming model is formulated to minimize the generalized waiting time, and a heuristic algorithm based on the adaptive simulated annealing genetic algorithm and the adaptive large neighbourhood search (ASAGA-ALNS) is designed to find high-quality solutions. The results of numerical experiments show that the method can alleviate platform congestion, while improving the comfort of waiting passengers.

Abstract :

Mixed traffic including human-driven vehicles (HV) and autonomous vehicles (AV) may be imminent. Differences in HV drivers' trust attitudes toward AV will lead to variability in their driving behavior. Since subjective trust is difficult to express through mathematical models, and few studies have taken this into account. This paper conducted an online survey on respondents' driving behavior when following AV and trust level in different scenarios. The significant influencing factors of trust level were analyzed. The results indicate that the trust level varies with personal and contextual attributes. The quantitative model for trust level was constructed using fuzzy logic. Its effectiveness was verified by comparing survey results with calculation results. This paper provides insights for studying vehicle interactions and the heterogeneity of HV drivers in human-machine mixed traffic flow.

Abstract :

Lane-changing is a basic driving behavior, but current modeling approaches fail to portray complex lane-changing processes. Furthermore, most microscopic traffic models assume the rationality of drivers. Therefore, a discretionary lane-changing decision model based on prospect theory is developed, taking into account the driver's limited rationality characteristics. First, the driver's lane-changing decision factors are assessed using SHAP. Then, the prospect value is obtained from a combination of the driver's weighing of objective probabilities and the value function, according to lane-changing decision factors. Then a binary logit model based on the prospect theory is developed to obtain the probability of lane-changing. It is found that the model not only has better accuracy and broader applicability but also reflects the limited rationality of drivers. The driver's decision-making factors sorted by SHAP value more accurately reflect the influence of each factor on the drivers in the real scene.

The Judgments and Effects of Truck Barriers on Diverging Area in Connected and Automated Environment CPCI-S

Abstract :

Connected and automated technology enables multiple trucks to platoon with a short spacing, promoting the formation of the truck barrier effect in the diverging area, thus having a significant impact on traffic flow. In the connected and automated environment, quantifying the discriminatory conditions of the truck barrier effect and exploring the traffic impact are important to improve the level of service in diverging areas and guide the development of platooning technology. Based on the Simulation of Urban Mobility (SUMO) simulation platform, the influence mechanisms of macro parameters such as arriving flow rate of departing vehicles (AD), arriving flow rate of going-straight vehicles (AS), and truck proportion (TP) and micro parameters such as time headway (TH) and platoon length (PL) on the truck barrier effect are analyzed. Macroscopically, different combinations of AD, AS and TP are derived for the truck barrier in the diverging area to form and as the TP increases, the departing demand and going-straight demand required for truck barrier effect occurrence decreases. Microscopically, TH <== 2s and PL > 5 are the conditions for the truck barrier effect in the diverging area to appear. In addition, the truck barrier will increase the lane change rate and speed standard deviation, which will negatively affect the safety and stability of traffic flow. With the increase in traffic demand, the negative impact of the truck barrier becomes more significant.

Abstract :

The mixed traffic of conventional vehicles (CVs) and connected and autonomous vehicles (CAVs) will dominate a long period in the popularization of CAVs and its dynamics are still not clear, especially in some complicated traffic scenarios. In this paper, an improved cellular automaton model was applied to investigate the CVs-CAVs mixed traffic dynamics around freeway merging area. The lane-changing rules were improved to consider the difference between CAVs and CVs and also the variation of drivers' aggressive driving during the merging process. The simulation has been conducted with different traffic demands and percentages of CAVs while the phase diagram, spatial-temporal diagram, characteristics of traffic volume, velocity profiles, stability and traffic conflict around the merging area were obtained. The results show that CAVs contribute to improving the traffic operation of freeway merging area in most conditions. However, more CAVs in the merging area without proper management will have a negative impact on traffic if the traffic demand for the main road is great. For example, the stability can decrease and particularly, the on-ramp traffic will be completely blocked when the percentage of CAVs is one. The findings can provide a basis for further research on the CVs-CAVs mixed traffic.

Fundamental diagram and stability analysis for heterogeneous traffic flow considering human-driven vehicle driver's acceptance of cooperative adaptive cruise control vehicles SCIE

Abstract :

With cooperative adaptive cruise control vehicles (CACC) development, the heterogeneous traffic flow of human-driven vehicles (HV) and CACC will appear on the same road. Although numerous studies have carefully analyzed the characteristic of the heterogeneous traffic flow, none of them considered the effect of the differences in acceptance of CACC by HV drivers on the heterogeneous traffic flow. In terms of the differences in car-following behaviors of HV drivers with diverse CACC acceptances, this paper deduces the capacity and stability of the heterogeneous traffic flow under different CACC penetration rates. Firstly, the HV driver's car-following behavior model with different CACC acceptability is calibrated through a questionnaire. Then, the analytical framework of the fundamental diagram and stability of the heterogeneous traffic flow is derived, according to the differences of HV drivers' acceptance of CACC. Finally, the paper analyzes the influence factors and effects of the heterogeneous traffic flow capacity and stability. The results indicate under different CACC penetration rates, the improvement of HV drivers' acceptance of CACC increases the capacity and stability of the heterogeneous traffic flow. When CACC penetration rate is lower than 96.35% and HV drivers' acceptance level of CACC is lower than the critical ratio, the popularity of CACC will decrease the stability of traffic flow. When the penetration rate of CACC is less than 34.76%, and HV drivers' acceptance level of CACC is lower than the critical proportion, the popularization of CACC will decrease the capacity of heterogeneous traffic. Equity-oriented integrated optimization of train timetable and stop plans for suburban railways system SCIE

Abstract :

In the suburban railway system, when oversaturation occurs in the railway line or the train skips the same station continuously, passengers waiting at different stations may receive a varying share of train resources. As a result, some passengers have to endure a very long waiting time, causing issues of inequity. Thus, this paper focuses on improving the system-wide equity performance through integrated optimization of the train timetable and stop plan while ensuring travel efficiency and cost rationality. As a part of the study, a novel equation to estimate equity performance by considering the difference in passenger travel utility is developed. Then, an integrated optimization model combining the train timetable and stop plan is proposed to minimize total travel time, train running time, and equity performance. Unlike other studies in the literature, this paper does not define any initial set of stopping plans, and synchronously optimizes the train timetable and stops the plan. This facilitates obtaining better solutions by expanding the solution space. Furthermore, it overcomes the NP-hardness of the investigated problem by using the adaptive large-scale neighborhood search (ALNS) algorithm to solve the multiobjective mixed-integer linear programming model. Finally, this paper discusses the original and optimized scheduling indicators of a real-world case based on the Shanghai Jinshan railway and performs a sensitivity analysis on equity weights. The results show that the proposed approach can improve the overall benefits of efficiency, cost, and equity by 23%. Specifically, in terms of equity, the passenger travel utility variance was reduced by 42.8%. This analysis provides essential information to railway managers in formulating the train operation plan.
